  • Craigslist in Jeopardy.......

I noticed a little notice on the home page about this.......

Corporations whose lobbyists drafted SOPA and PIPA want the ability to block you from reaching any web site they feel hurts their profits..........For example, Monster Cable considers craigslist a "rogue site" for takedown under PIPA - they want to prevent YOU from selling YOUR unwanted cables, by removing craigslist from the Internet entirely, so they can increase their sales of new cables! Many other "rights holders" want to be able to do the same. (Boycott anyone? There's an app for that.)

          it is a sickening problem.

big market pretends to be winning.
The ricer explosion since the internet is all market based. 20g later for the 500 dollar tin can and the kids are left scratching their heads with a pile of scrap people like me get banned over warning them about.

being older, not many of us fell for the punch-you-in-the-face market the net dishes out. no just cars. my 2001 CRT has still not been caught up to...you stupid pixel losers.

mention spec clutch, or professional products...blank stare and some idiot spending too much for a throw away K&N because the forum said so...."go oem that is the best" <- who the hell has the money to alter humanity into believing that one?

something has got to batle the market once again. Age old flunking story.

All that means is, the owners of craigslist have a political agenda *against* whomever they're talking about. Pretty simple. Get people on their side with propaganda, their real concerns likely have nothing to do with their stated gripes.

This is how PACs and politicians get people to vote their way - propaganda. All the lemmings read that and think "OH M GOD, EVIL PEOPLE WANT TO KILL POOR CRAIGSLIST!!" when in reality, the "evil people" probably want something like a tax increase on bandwidth or something similar...

                Don't be a lemming!

Not sure on that, but if you look at the people for it and the people against it, it's kind of a manufacturer against the Dot COM's......Don't think that if they succeed in taking down Craigslist, that they won't go after Ebay and others............They basically want us to stop selling our used stuff........

Next to go will be the classifieds in your local paper........

Ebay is actually the one who bought Craigslist, believe it or not.

Notice the change that has been wrought on Ebay? In the early days it was a super cool place to find unobtainium parts, and get them shipped to your door for a price that you had a hand in determining.

Nowadays, ebay is just another series of storefronts for new crap. It is not financially prudent to sell your used stuff on there, the fees structure makes it prohibitive.

I don't doubt the system or powers that be want to shut Craigslist down. Or at least neuter it to the point that no one wants to use it, like forcing tax to be paid on items you sell. That would deter 99% of sellers from ever posting their junk for sale.
Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.

ebay doesn't own craigslist.... they're a part owner, this is true, but the majority is still owned by the guy who invented it.

DG is right - it's much ado about nothing - SOPA and its progeny is an attempt to reform trademark and patent law.... something the lemmings have been screaming about for decades.... now the lemmings are crying that the world is ending because of the very thing they pushed for before is now going to change what is the status quo.... all of which makes great theater.
