It bears mentioning that GM’s decision to report the sales of its Chinese joint venture partners as its own is a disputed practice not followed by some other automakers. GM does not have a controlling interest in SAIC-GM-Wuling, which sold 1,285,820 vehicles last year. Remove Wuling’s sales from consideration and VW would be the world’s largest automaker. http://www.leftlanenews.com/gm-talli...automaker.html

Just because you sell a lot of something does not mean your products are superior.

It just means you were able to sucker more people into buying your junk.

Very true words, BBR. theres a sucker for every seat.
In reality, all my vehicles have been very good to me. Only ones that were junk was my 78 toyota celica, which was a POS from new, and my wifes 81 subaru, that punched a rod out thru the pan ( how does that happen in a subbie? ) at 61k.
My 87 ranger ran like new when I traded it.

I am glad an American firm is number 1 although those quations around minority ownership interests cloud the issue. Would I prefer another American firm be number 1, yes, but they'll have to earn it.

GM is the McDonalds of the automotive world. They sell a gazillion of them but that does not necessairly make them any good.

So a gazillion people buy a GM and that makes them dumb because its the smart people who buy less of something else?

I'm pretty much a Ford guy, but I think that most of us would agree when pressed that pretty much all of the manufacturers have built some good cars, and some real duds, over the years. When I say "good", I don't necessarily mean great or exciting, but good appliances for the big chunk of people that don't really give a crap about cars like we do, just looking for reliable transportation.

                            cheers

No offense, but this thread is worthless.

I prefer older GM products... The new stuff is getting better, but not from American ingenuity, but from the far reaches of the GM empire... The scary part is that VW, with their ambitious plan. Will out sell GM worldwide. Doing it with cars they build and design.

GM still needs to catch up and offer leading products outside of cars like the Corvette and CTS...

Funny, my friends in the VW dealerships say there products are junk. My Uncle who has just retired from working in a a VW dealership....and he just bought a new BUICK! Says he will never buy another ( VW) one.
Most of my Anti -GM friends think they still ride like worn out couches ( like the mid 80s ) , but then they drive the wifes car and they change their mind. They like her Impala much better than there camrys and accords!

And I have to ask.....are you saying that "Americans " have no ingenuity....I hope you don't want to open that can.
