  • speedvision and nascar

Who here thinks there is too much nascar on tv anymore? What happened to all the old show like the lost drive in, Victory By Design, and all the other types of racing or building shows. I like stock cars but how many shows can they make about one race??? They still have a few cool shows, but my TV used to never change channels, WHAT HAPPENED?

    Re: speedvision and nascar

NASCAR over-saturation has, for the most part, done me in for this once great channel.

Hell, even Dave Despain seems like he'd rather be anywhere but on Speed. I can detect a noticeable cringe every time he has to mention NASCAR.........

I loved Lost Drive-in. Two Wheel Tuesday used to be much better. I always wondered why they didn't just start their own NASCAR channel instead of ruining a really good channel.

I wish they would broadcast live from a broader variety of events such as WRC, open road racing, LSR, hill climbs(pikes peak), etc... Not just with one hour specials, but with full coverage of the whole event and close up views of the vehicles. I still watch...

            Just not NASCAR.

Okay so here's my take... In the beginning Speed begged us to Bitch at our cable companys to get them to carry this stupid car channel... with old junk ad's about cars and stupid shows that all of us liked... Then Nascar came along and the masses loved it... so Nascar bought us out... and Speed Sold us out... and here we are...

Dave Despain is who he is... he loves tires... doubt he cares what they are attached to, but they should be faster then someone elses tires...

Keith ( interesting take on Nascar by the way... if you can get past the crap... every Sunday...40 guys... strap themselves to some bad ass hot rods and drive the snot out of them... usually a fairly good show... just turn the volume down unless it's the right 3 laps... and enjoy the show... its really is good )

                Re: speedvision and nascar

Okay, here's my take. SPEEDVISION was cool, SPEED CHANNEL is better than no channel at all! I used to watch SPEEDVISION 6 to 7 hours a DAY, I watch SPEED CHANNEL 6 to 7 hour a WEEK, maybe >. I watch SPIKE more than SPEED CHANNEL. It's like most other things, they start out cool then turn to crap.
Just groovin' to my own tune.

If no one watched all those NASCAR shows; they wouldn't be able to sell any ad times for them and they'd be off the air. Sorry to say it, but shows are only on the air because people watch them. So obviously, there are more nascar fans than you guys.

That may be true. We used to have the station all to ourselves and we liked it that way. We had a variety of different kinds of racing and didn't have a single kind of racing on all the time. Now that the channel is for "the masses", the programming and marketing guys are afraid to alter their "recipe" from fear of losing market share. Like every other "fad" that's ever come and gone, a short few years from now we'll be talking about the good old days when we HAD a Speed Channel. It'll be replaced by the NEXT big "fad". I just wish I knew what the NEXT thing was going to be - so I could get there first, corner the market and get rich!

But it doesn't make it any less lame.....

Fox Broadcasting bought the Speed Channel a few years ago +
Fox paid NASCAR millions to broadcast races in 2001 =
                          Speed shows NASCAR ad nauseum.

I wish they still had Lost Drive In on. You can never show "Two Lane Blacktop" too much!

National Stock Car Racing.......I laugh ..... It had totally lost touch with it's roots when they started letting people run four doors and bodies that should have been front wheel drive if they were the least bit stock.Haven't watched a full race since Dale died . He made it a show .Whether you loved him or loved to hate him.

How about a 24 hours a day 'Victory by Design" channel?

I realize you need to sell a lot of "crap" air time so we can have the "little gem" shows we enjoy. BUT all that NASCAR stuff has driven me away. Pinks and Unique Whips is damn stale too. I hate contrived drama and all these shows reek of it. There seems to be no "gems" left to watch. Basically I'm not their target audience and it's all about the money. I watch BBC Canada for "Top Gear" on Sunday night. I know it's a bit froo froo for some but it is the most refreshing and irreverent and damn wacky car show on TV IMO ( I'm a Brit too so I'm weird already!)
