Ah an IAII block, that esplains lots. That thing should hold up quite well, and you can always add the 4.5" crank later for a 540. Cant wait to see it run.

BTW Brian runs an EMS-Pro (Megasquirt software) for spark control as the engine is halfway towards full EFI. There is a 36-1 EDIS wheel between the dampener and the lower pulley. The distributor simply sends the spark from the coil onto the plugs, no trigger, locked out all timing adjusments made in the ECU. On the dyno he checked rotor phasing via a hole drilled in the cap.

We had to adjust trigger angle by -3* to sync up what the engine was actually doing through the ignition vs. what was shown in the spark table. Trigger angle is difference measure between TDC and the trailing edge of the the last tooth before the missing tooth, with the final number being 55*. The EMS allows us to map timing at very detailed level including start retard, additonal launch timing, and all manner of part throttle, load based adjustments, not to mention rev limters for soft and hard cut, two step, and trans brake settings.

Its one of the secret savings you get because you don't need a ton of external chips, delay and two step and rev limiter boxes, mechanical and vacuum advance tuning features etc. It uses a stock distributor, MSD cap and rotor, 6A box and super coil. It also manages N2O timing adjustments and talks to a TPS which wasn't needed for the dyno as we weren't doing N2O tuning. Needless to say it also tracks inlet air temps IAT, coolant temps CTS, manifold vacuum MAP and the TPS for datalogging purposes.

End of shameless Megasquirt promo. And yes, da Geek was instrumental in helping get all this set up as was Brian's dad, the engineering genius.
