Most influential was a guy whose pen name sounded like "Barbed Wire", in Texan.

Seymour Balz was one of the Hot Car guys who came out from NYC in the seventies to Van Nuys Blvd. and did an "expose" on how there was actually no street racing there, despite some reputation they'd heard of. Having seen no racing on the main blvd., on cruise night, they went back home and pronounced the whole thing a "HOAX", in capitol letters, on their cover. Yepppp...that was one of the classics.
