  • Your thoughts on 'all team final rounds' NHRA yesterday.

All three pro classes ended with teammates racing each other. I think this was the first time this has ever happened.

Anyone else, a little disenfranchised by this sort of thing? I mean, "horray that they are funding multiple cars and racing", but "boo they have several shots at winning".

Just makes me root for the little guys even louder.

It is a weird deal. One the one hand without the big teams the field would be way short, but it does make me a little queasy as well.

The first time two team cars ran off against on another at an NHRA National event it was at the 1970 Gatornationals. The Candies and Hughes team was one of the first true "multi-car" operations in the sport at the professional level and Leonard Hughes ran off against his team mate and the driver of the second C&H car, Larry Reyes in the final. Hughes won the race. It was an anomaly back them but I guess it was a look into the future!

(Knowing all this dumb shit comes in handy every once in a while. )

I do not think there has ever been a race where all three professional classes had "team" runoffs, I agree with you there!

As long as you look at the NHRA for what it is, this seems to be a sign of the times. From what I saw, at least none of the team drivers appeared to be throwing the race to determine the outcome .... it's a bit early for that anyway.

I was just happy to Anderson and Line go to the final round.

How about Top Fuel, only 16 cars showed up, if you could make it down the track you were qualified, we haven't seen that in a while, sign of the times?

It may be the first time, but I bet it won't be the last.

I stayed up to watch it on the DVR and fell asleep twice. Once again like Pomona the stands weren't full although the % seemed higher in Phoenix.

They still run Pontiac bodies in Pro Stock fer crissake. I think NHRA is in trouble with all of these trends.

The nitro cars should limited to one spec size fuel pump and go back to the real quarter mile.

I hope that new factory Pro Stock class happens.

Bill, it might have been during one of your naps but I think they said Anderson and Line have Camaro's on order?

A couple years ago NHRA paid the little guys to show up at the west coast races when short fields were looking imminent. Guys like Arley Langlo, etc. With Jay Roach being dead, that kept those guys away and I wonder if any of the other truly low buck fuel teams just socked it in (or built nostalgia nitro floppers). The MM is looking like another 40-50 car nostalgia flopper show.

Nitro ain't dead....it just moved to a different neighborhood.

I'm thinking Compton needs to get out the NHRA Checkbook again or better yet use his personal Checkbook, LOL!
