  • 1940 Chevy, my ADD knows no bounds

I'm halfass looking for a t-bucket and find a '40 Chevy for 2500.00. Somebody talk me out of this quick!

looks like glass is about 500.00, and it looks like it is all flat. I'm checking on some other things, like wheelbase etc. to see if something like a Panther or S10 fits under it easily but dang, I'm hurting trying to keep from calling. Other than catching hell for putting Ford drivetrain under a Chevy, why wouldn't I want to do this?

This thing looks cool, I'd consider putting it on top of the Bronco <----

The car looks pretty confused right now, like it's not sure what it's supposed to be...street rod? gasser? rat rod?

I guess that putting a ford in it would probably be natural for it....

Old cars are narrow, and the engine is really far back from the front wheels, so don't expect any newer car chassis to fit well.

you need that, all that new stuff will wear your soul away (not to mention deprive you of much needed vitamin rust)

Those cars take nova front ends pretty easily.... in fact, I'd bet that's what is under it now (tires are too far out to be stock)

It's a couple of hundred miles away... I don't have time to go look today. I looked at the stock pictures of the front end and it looks begging for a 300 EFI Ford / Turbo setup. I'd want it out of the sky, Gassers are cool and all but not really my thing. I need to get some measurements and check on what it's got with the owner. A Nova / Camaro clip would be cool with me, plenty of parts availability! I think it would settle the front end down with a nice fat big block though? I was looking at pictures of other cars with a 350 Chevy in them, it is kinda tight side to side. Lots to think about.

I really like the shape of the car, I may see if there are any local so I can get a better idea of what I'd be getting into before driving to Texarkana or Arkansas to look at it. If it's a true North Texas car, there shouldn't be a whole lot of rust. There seem to be a few in that price range so I'm guessing it's not gonna disappear overnight. The pictures show some rough body areas. I'd want to get it good and driveable, then worry about pretty probably never.

It'll fit anything you want to put in it. Yes, they appear narrow, but unless you're using a hemi, or OHC V8 they have plenty of room. Nicest part is there's vertical space - for such things like a blower.

as long as the rust isn't too bad, you can get some parts for the body

Nova/camaro clips are kinda wide, the Ford solution (pinto/mustang II) is a good way to go if you want it to sit low up front. You just have to deal with the steering shaft snaking past the engine to the steering rack.

Go for it..life is short. When you finally cross to the other side of the river -- as we all must some day -- you won't be saying "Dang, I'm sooooooo glad I didn't buy that 1940 Chev." Quite the opposite, probably.

And just think...T-buckets are nice but this would be miles more practical (and re-saleable, if it ever came down to it).

                    Sorry, I'm enabling. Sorry.

I kept a pair of those around here for a long time...never did anything with them, though. A lot of work but like anything, it's do-able if you get committed (which means if it's really ADD driving you to do this, and believe me I understand, then you might want to think twice).

Jim's right in his subframe/Mustang II comments. The layout and shape of those things will fit no modern chassis but there's nothing wrong with the frame as it is, if you upgrade all the details.

Pass. Looks like they primer fogged it to make it presentable.

City of Lewisville just committed me to a weekend of yard cleaning and car moving. Fail. I may write FU in the yard with weed killer.
