  • Tv anchor suspended over sexist slur

A sports anchor at a San Diego news television station who made a sexist comment about a female NASCAR racer was suspended without pay for a week.

She mentions that she "wished there was another way people described female athletes such as herself other than sexy". Honey, If you are going to trot out the bikinis and underwear I think you need to not get too upset over sexist slurs...
Whether or not she can drive she and her people ruin whatever she has accomplished with the skeezy posing.

    Well......now I've re-confused myself.

Poor anchor used bad judgement in these modern politically correct times.

But Danica chose that route. All of that and racing cars, too. It's an enigma of sorts. If she wants to be taken seriously as a driver, then stay out of the skimpy costumes on national TV commercials....heck yeah, she's hot. Maybe her PR coach will figure that one out. Hard to turn down barge loads of money coming in from different directions, but...But is the PR coach a modeling coach or a racing coach? I for one (sorry, "Juan") believe there's a real conflict of interest there. It's....it's....well, that would be a good problem to have, but .... okay I'm out of gas, side of the road on the subject. Too old to make any sense of it.

Folks, exposure (pun intended) not only allows Danica to get a ride, but it helps her earn a living. Shrewd...

The reporter knows better... There are many female athletes that have posed sexy... It does not mean they should be labeled... Nor should they be called a b*&^h by some news hack.

Well.....the B-word is a matter of opinion and judgement and lots of fans and folks have used just that very term for her. Rich, beautiful, on TV, and rolling in it. And trying to drive a race car at the same time.

I've got a very simple mind, but if that was my life, that's just too much. The poor anchor guy said what he thought instead of what was scripted. Error. Foul, penalty, these days, though he spoke what lots of folks have already declared. But not on TV at the anchor desk.

I reckon a lot of it is just real envy. How many of us are young, rich, beautiful, AND driving a car on the big circuit and posing for cameras for megabucks as well? Not many. I don't particularly have it, the envy. My mind just couldn't process all of that if it was happening to me. No way I could figure out on the clock what I was supposed to do next. Too much stuff going on.

EDIT: I think what I'm trying to say is that the way I'm built (and nobody else is built the way I am, good for all of y'all), I'd far prefer to do one.....maybe barely marginally TWO things well at the same time, as opposed to doing 12 things half-assed.

I agree the anchor should have used something that is not a sexist term. Fox news go figure...

Sorry to say, but as soon as a goodlooking woman, no matter how capable she is, poses sexy that becomes part of her MO, then to turn around and say you wish you weren't described that way is absurd. Expecting to be treated with the same respect as other NASCAR drivers who are notably male and not flaunting their bodies will never happen, she will forever be accused of using her body to get what she wants.

He called a woman sexy- what is wrong with that? I think that if she wants to be considered only for her driving skills, she should show just her driving skills. Instead, she poses almost nude. And you really don't want others to talk about your body? Really?

I guess if he called her a butt ugly hag, that would be ok?
Why think when you can be doing something fruitful?

Gail, you are so absolutely correct, IMO. Bingo. I wonder how many people in the viewing audience are actually watching it happen, and analyzing it for what it's worth? A small percentage, I'll bet. NASCAR is so full of .... well, NASCAR fans. At large, not a lot of calculating going on there. And the cash registers ring and the ratings go up. Money.

When Danica was doing an interview during the week at Daytona, she was accused of being the "face of NASCAR." She was visibly shocked by that label. She's kind of funny in interview, she doesn't seem to take herself seriously. But her talk and her actions say different things. No, I'm a rookie, but look at me in this bikini. Everybody - LOOK!

It's just confusing. Lots more than good ole boys can handle. A new deal. Confusing at best.

Ooops. I scanned over the article while here at work... I have no personal experience with her and that- never met her.

I'm with Gail, 100%. The young lady should just drive the race car. After all, how many of us have that opportunity? The rest of it is just noise. She's being led by agents, and whoever .... drive the dadgum car. A whole world of folks wish they could just do that and only that.

Here is his quote he didn't actually call her that he insinuated it...

"Oh, I've got a few words: starts with a 'B', and it's not 'beautiful," Shimabuku said on air.

Danica the serious race car driver sure looks seriously racy in a swim suit. High speed... Low Drag.

Is that a sexist slurpy? Can I get more at 7-11?

Sometimes I think we need to stop taking ourselves so seriously, but that's just me. The slurpy chic sure handles herself well in the media.

Did any of you notice at the Daytona 500 when she was babbling to the other drivers during the fire,Tony Stewart had a look on his face that was so obvious saying "get the hell outa here" . If she was a hag she wouldn't get half the attention she gets.
