  • Drag Radials - Do they work?

I've ordered a set of MT ET Drag Radials to try on my Dakota.
I'm trying to fit into the True Street class for a heads-up race out here in AZ which is scheduled for Dec. 15th.

    http://www.arizonasfasteststreetcars.com/Rules.htm

My stuff isn't quick enough to win, but I'd like to go and play for the day anyway.
I usually run Hoosier slicks with CalTracs, Monoleaf rears and QA-1 shocks.
The best 60' number so far has been 1.58.
Do you guys think the tire change will work?
If not, how bad will it hurt me?

Dr's are a balance beam when you are on they are fast when your not they are tire shaking junk LOL

If you are hooked hard with what you have it worth a try but if your spinning your slicks even a little then fix that first, Dr's will not recover like a slick

Re: Drag Radials - Do they work?

my car wouldn't 60 foot for anything w/ slicks. tried 29.5x10.5 ET Drags, 30x12.5 ET Streets, 28x12.5 ET Streets, no luck. wadded up the sidewalls and ran over em. no matter what suspension adjustments or air pressure changes i made.
put on 295-65 ET Street radials b/c the M/T tech guy told me too, lol, instantly started hooking.
heavy stock suspension cars love radials.

but, Like Jeff said, when the track's good they hook like glue, but if the track's marginal...you'll shake the crap out of em. CHIP

          Thanks guys!

I guess I'll just have to see how it goes.
The track this particular race is held at usually hooks very nicely, so hopefully that means I'll hook there as well.
If radials like heavy vehicles then this should work great!
The truck weighed 4046# 2-weeks ago in Tucson.

Re: Drag Radials - Do they work?

I have been using the M/t ET drag radials and I agree with Chip. I run the 315/60 on a 12'' rim. Best 60' was 1.29. they are great on a warm/well prepped track and are great on the top end of the track.

Re: Drag Radials - Do they work?

I run the MT 275/60/15 ET Drag radials on 10 inch wheels at 18 p.s.i. My cars weighs 3720 and has a 1.49 60ft. with a 10.91@122mph. Never had slicks on it but had BFG Drag radials and it would just blow them off. They are very stable on the top end.

Re: Drag Radials - Do they work?

                Thanks for the info Mopower58.

I think I might appreciate the truck being more stable at speed. I usually run 14 psi of air in the slicks and it always feels kinda "squirmy" going down track. I got the 275/60/15's also, but I'm going to run them on an 8" wheel. Best so far was 10.90s @ 124+ mph, but with 1.65-1.67 60' numbers.

Re: Drag Radials - Do they work?

I switched to M/T dr's this summer after cashing my ET Streets. The best 60 foot ever with ET Streets was a 1.512.I switched to the Dr's and went a 1.492.

The car use to sway all over cruising at anything over 50mph.Now it's like driving a slot car.

                    I run a 235/60/15

I got mine mounted today and planned on trying them out at the track tonight.... but it's raining.
Do they work in the rain? J/K hehehe
Maybe I'l find out next weekend.

How much burnout do they need?
