  • What the F is wrong with people

This is so messed up and disgusting, I literally cannot believe it.

That which you manifest is before you.

    Assholes indeed.
    Escaped on a technicality.

      Why am I not suprised?

Reminds me of the mob-mentality we see on the news, usually from a mideastern city though.

Hey, at least they all got what they really wanted - - 15 minutes of Internet Fame.

Sickening but not suprising. I believe we will see lots more of this in the future as societies continue their decline.

Yeah, Brian, saw that vid, and that's pretty bad. Lots of that kind of thing has become a problem with open course off road racing down there. Stiney, I'd say the motivation was more a twisted idea of 'fun' with no regard at all to the victim than internet fame.

Perhaps so Dulcich, perhaps so. That doesn't change the fact that there were a lot more standing around with their cameras than there were people trying to help.

I guess I'm too old school, I grew up watching people DROP their cameras and run to help, not fight for a better camera angle.

Since they made it happen, I'd have to conclude that 'helping' is not too big on that crowd's mindset.

Environmental activist groups do similar things to interrupt desert races they feel are threatening the environment. Idiots.

I'm surprised that they do not tell the drivers to BE SUPER CAUTIOUS if you see a crowd of people standing around because of such stunts.

Or have an M60 mounted to the front of your buggy.

Slightly more effective than a shovel. I agree.

A direct refelction of the people of that area.

Douchebags...all of them. I have seen the booby traps before, and some are down right awful...but this certainly takes the cake.

BTW...I can not post to the blog, no matter what answer I give...its always wrong.

Brian, I know it is frustrating to see something like that, but Mexico has been a pretty dangerous place since the days of the old west. Back in the day when I used to go down there I packed my 9mm just in case; heard many stories about banditos from buddies that would camp on the beach during surfing expeditions. Thinking about it now, I probably wouldn't cross the border with a loaded firearm these days. I pretty much just avoid going down there anymore, especially with the crazy violence from the drug wars.

The last time I considered going was for the Baja 1000 back in 05 or 06. One of my old fraternity bros built a class 1 car, and I built the engine for it, a 427 LS1. I was going to run support for the race but had a bunch of articals due and decided I just had to call it off.

I think some guy got killed or went missing down there that year.

Welcome to my world where you have to defend the people you'd rather use the aforementioned shovel on (I prefer the idea of a flame thrower since I don't have to get as close....)

This is bordering on religious, but I can't help saying it. When people's own moral compass have no bearing, and there is no fear of punishment, evil prospers. Sadly, what happens next is zealots (it's why Islam prospers)

This is one aspect of desert racing that I will never understand.

I know the sanctioning bodies have a lot on their plate but permitting this kind of behaviour is unacceptable.

I'd love to participate in the Baja 500 or 1000 one day but there's no way I could do it with a clear conscience. Even if those people are asking for trouble, I'd have a hard time dealing with ploughing through a crowd of people in an accident.
