Split window was 63 only and is the easiest way to identify them. All 63-67 Vettes only had two tail lights per side. It was common to add extras back in the day. 63 was also the only year for chrome louvers on the hood for that body style.

The split window went away due to visibility concerns (as mentioned in a few other posts) after 63.

Peewee it was just a popular thing I guess,my friend had a 67 "repaired" due to the extra tail light just last year.

If you google split window Vettes, you'll see 4 taillights - not 6.

Since I don't "Get it," why did I see one the road today and found a photo on a search for it so easily? Did it happen a lot? Honestly, I really don't know a thing about Vettes. But it sure caught my eye.

Try driving a Ford Aerostar van or a Mazda MPV. The top of the dash is like four feet long to the base of the windshield.
Or those GM "dustbuster" vans.... if something slides to the front of the dash, it's gone!

It seemed to me that the view out of the front was distorted by looking out through the glass at such a steep angle.

Major visibility issues anyways even with the 64 rear window. Blind spots a semi could hide in.
