  • 5000 lbs of burning love.

My neighbor is going to a nursing home. She sent this car out for a new headliner and the guy left it outside all winter. She bought it new in 1970. I first met her a couple years later. All original, last licensed in 2000' not driven since.

A/C doesn't work, windshield washer doesn't work, but parts in trunk for AC and new in the box washer pump too. 200 miles on odometer since replaced valves adjusted.

Desperately needs new trunk seal and a quart of lacquer for some touchup and it will be my long haul toy.Click image for larger version

            You sure that's a 5,000lb car & not a 6,000lb car?

I like stories like this, granny buys a new car in the 70's & keeps it.
Hope it all works out, looking forward to the finished product.

I bet the power seat motor/track assembly on that beast weighs more than a smart car.

The cig lighter on the passenger seat back trim is classic 70's American car option goodness.... how they kept track of all that stuff through the factories before bar code readers or computers of any kind is a true wonder.

Can the fabric roof be saved? doesn't look like the tin worms have been too hard on it..... lots of potential there. With fully operational AC cruise and good tunes - that thing would be the ultimate comfy power tour ride.

Yup, both sides in rear, but never smoked in. I looked, no trace of lighter or ash trays ever used.

The rear trunk seal weeps, so interior got damp and head liner was the first to go. I can replace it, too fragile right now for cleaning. The A/C looks like they torqued the crap out of connector and o-ring got smashed. Compressor works fine.
I am thinking serious upgrade in sound system for sure. The new options out there now, it could be a concert hall performance.

That way you don't have to pass the lighter to your kids in the back seat! Great now for powering iThings.

Love the car! figure out a way to put a rudder under the back bumper!

                      beautiful car.
                      the brown shades..

the mention of broken windshield washer.
car saved itself (that was a #1 reaction maker to kill bodies)

I let my own die (still works just not using) in the back of the wagons, the only electric function I will not allow...nor filling the jug.

modern rainx purchased recently seems to be staying friendly though...

check out the crutchfield outlet before you buy audio components - I could spend a lot of money in that place! Certainly plenty of room on that rear seat bulkhead for amps and sub mounts, and you'd still have a cubic acre of trunk space!

Nice! I had a 71 as a teenager, not the most efficient vehicle I ever owned, but you could haul 10 cohorts around in it, defraying the cost of gas with a small collection from each.

There was a time when that would have been a 455 donor and the rest go to demo derby hell. Thankfully that time has passed in many parts of the country. I would still yank the 455, stuff it in something small with some Stage 1 heads, but this beasite would be impressive with some 6.0L LSx power coupled to a 4L60E trans. Fine motoring with acceptable mileage with one of those fancy truck engines in it. I would repaint it the stock color in a B/C and add some front disc brakes from a later B body, and lose the vinyl roof.

Ghetto cruiser is what we called them back in the 80s. Tint the windows, add serious sounds, make the AC work and enjoy the ride on long trips with ten friends, only two stuffed in the trunk for privacy.
