  • Interesting Crate Motor at NC Auction

My son and I found this very unique crate motor at an auction last weekend...no we didn't buy it.

Auctioned as a new Hudson Twin H engine, it is actually a rebuilt engine. It also is an AMC version of the Hudson engine, although it does have the dual carbs w/Hudson on it. A couple of Hudson guys there told me that it was a 1955 engine and the block was made out of a different metal than the Hudson version. Not as good from what I understand.

Yes, straight from J.C.Whitney and never taken out of the crate!

You know I really don't know. I guess rather than a different kind of metal it was more like the quality of the material itself. At the auction there were three Hudsons:

This was the only two door, a 1954 -- Last year before AMC took over Hudson.

Lots of other stuff the Hot Rod guys were climbing all over:

Can you please put up bigger pics of the engine in the crate, and the tag on it? That's neat...JCW sold lots of interesting stuff back in the old days, including used engines!

The rust=gold mind set was alive and well. The telephone booth Model T with no frame or anything went for over $2000! The best of the lot was the 2door Model A and I think it went for almost $3,000.
