My Grandmother called me Scott Owen, it took ten seconds for my uncle to shorten it to ScottO. It stuck. In HS, I got Wildman because I got pulled over in driver's ed doing 87 in a 55.

Most people who don't really know call me Scotty. I don't respond to it when it leads to the enevitable Beam me up Scotty jokes. Always hated Scotty mainly it shows a lack of imagination, or knowing the person you're calling the name.

It seems that nicknames just appear out of nowhere. There was a guy here years ago that We called Doc, it happend one night when we were eating lunch and a guy said "hey, you know, you look just like Dr. Strangelove" that was it...Doc stuck

We had a dude here when I was a young pup that would create a nickname for people and they always stuck, there was Hot Pants, Book Worm, Crusty..whatever he came up with always stuck....I asked him once why I never got one...he said nothing he could ever come up with fit...

I had 2 nicknames in the Navy. Great Lakes people called me Wildwood. Started on the softball field and carried on to the party's that followed. (Last name is Harwood) Then in Norfolk they called me Dr. Destructo. They would tell me to get rid of some equipment and I would destroy it.
            OH YEAH

Yeah, I had a knack for making unauhorized spare parts "vanish" before a inspections and audits...I have made "bad" parts "worse" to ensure I wont have to deal with them again...it takes skill and cunning.

                        Monk........have had it since I was about 7 yrs old.....around 1956.

I'd climb up into a neighbor's tree......older oak and pretty high up........and stay
                        for awhile.

They started to call me 'monkey'..........later Monk stuck and still am greeted by that
today when I run into old classmates.
My teachers even would call me by that name.

I have been 'caveman' since one of my buddies freshman year saw how well I played basketball.

It really stuck when folks got to know my occasional penchant for beating something into/out-of shape with a wooden club.

been called 'crash' now & then, mostly because I tend to bump into more things than most when drunk.
