  • Cool old dragster

Here's aome pics of a cool old dragster someone brought to the HSR road race last weekend. I thought you guys might like it. Super charged Buick, hard wall slicks, nothing extra.

    Man...awesome car.

Do you know if the chassis is original or did someone recreate an old one? If it is original it looks to be an old Chassis Research K-88 model chassis.

Scotty Fenn's company was really the first to offer a "commercial" dragster chassis that you could buy complete or in a kit that you would weld together at home.

I really dig the crank mounted blower and the authentic Buick powerplant just puts it over the top!

Amazing! Of course, anything with a Buick in it is cool with me. The front-mount blower (Potvin?) is neat, too. Does anyone know why they stopped using this configuration?

I'm guessing it's a 455, but with all the different accessories covering up the motor, it's hard to tell. I'm taking his word for it.

              Looks like a 1st gen Olds V8. 303 - 394 type.

yeah, thats not a Buick. Buick V8's with distibutors in the back were Nailheads and they had 4 true exhaust ports and all the Buick V6's had distributors in the front. I don't know what it is other than not a Buick.

                  Re: Cool old dragster

Looks like an Olds, with the center-bolt valve covers, but I'm don't know much about those engines. Nailhead valve covers are straight up and down, and the valves go straight up and down (like a nail). A Nailhead intake will also sit with all the ports flat on a table top.

So, what has center bolt valve covers and three exhaust ports?

That wasn't Road Atlanta last weekend, was it? If it was, I'm gonna be really bummed that I missed that car...

Pretty sure it's an early Olds. Either way it would take some seriously big balls to drive it! Awesome.

                        Pontiac perhaps?

not pontiac, they looked the same in the 50s as they did in the 70s.

                          Probably Olds....
