    2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco

My parents got their new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu last week. While anything with less than a V8 isn't for me, I was very anxious to check out this car, as it seemed to be getting rave reviews. I was also anxious to see the e-assist in action, which assists during acceleration with a 15 hp motor with 110 ft/lbs of torque. It also shuts off at a stop, restarting upon taking your foot off the brake pedal.

First impression? This car is amazing. I really do like the styling, as its actually got some lines and aggressiveness to it. The interior is arguably the nicest interior shy of a Cadillac that GM has ever designed. The acceleration is "peppy," much better than I expected, and sufficient for what it is in my opinion. The sticker says 38 mpg, but my dad's trip to Detroit proved better, at 43 mpg highway. The handling was very impressive as well.

Considering I bought my dad's 2002 F150 off him, adding another V8 to our collection in the form of the 5.4, I won't be giving up my V8's any time soon. Yet for what it is, and where auto makers need to be in order to survive, I think the new Malibu is a slam dunk, and will prove to be a hot seller!

Nice looking car, if nothing else. 43 mpg, and 0-60 in 6.5 seconds? Not bad!!

I did not understand it at first.
        25 to 37 mpg..and electric motor generator.

the power numbers are the gain..as normal stuff at 37 mpg is by no means a powerhouse.
182hp and 172 ft pounds and 37 mpg.

that is doing something for somebody.

I am ashamed for learning other engines so close to that and 25 years older..

at least it is new. that is another bonus.

We got a dozen of the first Malibu Hybrids at work.
Chevy never promoted nor advertised them in any way.
They were amazing, nice cars but the world had no clue they were available.
I saw a few at my local dealership, but they just sat on the lot un-noticed.

The lease ran out on our fleet, GM collected them, stopped production that same year, and that was that.
Good to read they are back with a great machine.

agreed, if I was forced to go with a weenie mobile, this would be it.

The stop / start makes a lot of sense, without adding all the complexity of a "full hybrid" power train.

Was the 43mpg calculated based on gallons used by topping off the tank - or by the vehicle's readout on a trip computer?
There's always something new to learn.

"Hi, welcome to Chevy World the largest dealership in the nation I'm Kyle"

                me: "Hello, Kyle."

Kyle: "I bet you're here to try out our new exciting Chevy Eco mphhmp"

(Kyle gets punched in the mouth)

                THE END!

This story made me happy. I hope you feel better too.

They are sharp cars, if I had to commute further than the 2 blocks I currently do, I would think about something like that. Though I doubt I'd punch the salesman...

43 mpg was actual calculation, based on topping off the engine after a round trip commute of about 180 miles. Detroit New reported the same on a round trip from Detroit to Chicago. Like I said, not exactly my kind of car...but, if I was in the market for a car that wasn't a matchbox car, had nice styling, and knocked down some good mpg, I think this would be it. I mean seriously, the SMART car sticker says the same 38 mpg highway as the Malibu, and real world, my dad got 43 mpg. Plus, the SMART car is more of a penny racer than a car, where as the Malibu is...well, a real car.

Well it looks much better than a Toyota. I wouldnt be opposed to one as the winter beater and for the wife, she drives all over the damn place. I bet her bunker gear and firefighter/EMT stuff would fit nice in the trunk and still have plenty of room.

Nice ride, My mom and dad bought a Cruz with the turbo. They love it. I drove it once, but I didnt flog it. The got way over 40 on a trip to Fla. and back. It looks like a baby Malibu. I seen the video for the new 2013 Impala, and the interior look great, and I kinda dig the outside. The used a 65 Imp SS in the ad, and there is a tiny resemblance in the roofline/1/4 windows.

Was looking at a one year old Malibu tonight...soon going to have to get the better half something a little more up-to-date than her 2000 Xterra.

Anyway, the Malibu is very impressive, good looking, well put together. About time there was something out there to dethrone Camry.
