man, ummmm... that's allot of cars... 1,000? are they sure...? it would take quite some time to get 1,000 cars through an intersection - but they only wrote one ticket for spectating? hmmmmm... sound like someone tried to make the story a little bigger than it was, maybe.... i'm just texting outa my a$$ of course, i wasn't there - wish i had been though ....but that seems really extreme.

Hundreds was not uncommon on a big night for us growing up, but 1000 would have been crazy.

That is how it was here.......We used to run on Deer Valley Rd, right in front of the Airport, where BRE Engines is........

Sounds like a typical blown-up story just to gather reader interest.
Probably 50 cars were actually 'racing' and the rest were failbook-hangarounds.

                they were being honest.
120 is with the right parts.

normal people, no race track. what did they think was going to show up with emission laws attached.

Will someone please figure out a way to make dragstrip usage feel 'cool' to the avg teen?

I WISH I had a 'strip down the street when I was a kid. Woulda saved me some major pain-in-the-ass.

Yeah, me too. After I joined the navy the drag strip at Grand Bend ON re-opened after being shut down for more than ten years --would have saved me a lot of cash and hassle with the local constabulary had it been a going concern throughout the late-70s.

When did SPECTATING become a crime in America........Gee what's next, prison time for necking in the back seat? And the Law wonders why they get no respect.........just my thoughts on a Friday night, think I'll have another beer now.

Man, I was huge into street racing thru the 70's and 80's. And to see daily looking JUNK as part of a street race story is weird to me. I can only watch a few seconds of that video.

There's this road called Woodward Ave, and sometimes people race on it. There are normally several "spectators" on the side of the road showing off their cars and watching others cruise by on Friday nights. Im guessing this is what really happened in Miami.
