  • Hahaha Hot Rod Blog - Drag Week

HOT ROD is “where it all began,” as the first magazine to cover the hot rod culture. Since that time, HOT ROD has evolved into a brand devoted to everything from hot rods to restomods, barn finds to project cars and everything in between.

Hmmmmm.... I wonder if that's our very own Speedy?

Ha! Yup, definitely sounds like him!

        I like the response too:
Our sneaky methods have something to do with the fact that 2013 GT500s won’t be for sale by the time Drag Week 2012 starts. We’ll have to get really tricky next year and find out how to keep any GT500s from attending our GT500/ZL1 Faceoff. Any suggestions?

Thank you boys and girls for alerting me to the possibility of being an INSIDER!!

Underground success - how many members secured the lucrative spots? Will my Daily go 15's? Will I sell my spot on ebay?

Lemme give "them" a guess. I guess it would sell on ebay, but for me to list it, FoMoCo or Ms. Robinson Motors will have to pony UP. Like enough to cover my 5k budget. Squared. "They" can look up 5000^2 if they have problems with that math. And I'm still not sure I'd give it up. Okay, yah, I probably would.

Them... excel... choose a cell. enter =5000^2. Call me. Operators are standing by. I can't do this all day... are you with me camera guy?

uh, Chad, did I get your spot? I was pretty excited and didn't wait to see who registered first. I'm pretty sure I wasn't 199, but DF can probably still get you in. If not, you can have it if Ford and Chevy don't jump me for it. 5000^2. Paypal accepted.

                  :P

GT500 and / or ZL1 with no rollbar and slicks. Bye, you can't run more than one. I don't get the commentary on it. Stuff a rollbar in it and suddenly, not such a "stock" question any more... hell, a 2k3 Mustang can get you booted pretty close to stock.

                  Plan C. Terminator/Whipple/Rollbar ?

Speedy may have DW and PT confused.

Nice to see HRM have a bit of sense of humor on their site. More views there today than in the last three weeks I think. Equal to about 4 minutes here on BS.

I think I had some fast orange gritting up places it shouldn't have been last night. I guess I'm just "sensitive"... but I started reaching for the credit card as soon as I heard registration had opened based on the chatter / excitement already happening. That same card is losing tolerance with me over this event already. I only waited 3 years to put this crap together, and couldn't think of a stronger motivation.

I was going to wait a week for payday, but panic'd and bought as soon as the trend was taking off like wildfire.

                              Strapping on my firesuit . . . Yep, I wrote it, and . . .

I was . . . in the words of the late great Grey Baskerville . . . "torqued off."

I was planning to run a new Coyote-powered Mustang in daily driver (as it is actually a daily driver . . . and a three-pedal daily driver at that) . . . certainly not for the win, but just for the "road trip" experience. And no, I'm fully aware that DW (now DW*) isn't the Power Tour.

                              Unlike HRM's own "forum freaks," I seldom check Hot Rod.com (surprisingly, I have a very time-consuming JOB . . . and NO, Spidey . . . it's not "floorw#@ring" the counter at AutoZone . . . and a mountain of other "grown-up" responsiblities).

So I mistakenly believed that HRM would conduct registration as they did in 2011 (i.e. closer to the event). Obviously, that was a titanic mistake.

Go ahead, "insiders," poke fun at all of us snoozing "outsiders" that don't hang on every HRM blog post, don't get private invitations, and don't wheel around 7-second pretend "street cars."

BTW, I'm always amazed that some of those "in charge" of our hobby/sport who lament apparent earmarks of declining participation (e.g. shrinking magazine circulation, closed drag strips, fewer small and local vendors, less advertising, more greybeards), yet are often parochial in rules, policies and attitudes that inhibit participation to a discrete and insular group of monied favorites. Is this sport still grassroots HOT RODDING, or is it becoming like polo or golf?

I hope everyone who was prescient enough to register in the week or so of registration for DW* . . . or who sits all summer on "stand by" has big fun at 2013 DW*. I have nothing against how HRM decides to host their little editorial feeder party. And I'm sure I'll find something else productive to do with a week of vacation in the middle of September . . . .

                              Flame away, kids!
