  • GM Quality - sho enuff!

One of our guys went to check the trans fluid on our 33K mile 2011 Silverado and the dipstick tube came right out with the dipstick. Nice. Stick is covered in dirt. Trans is probably full of dirt too. Whoever heard of a trans dipstick tube failing? Absolutely ridiculous.

That's what I was thinking. The Ford dealer I worked at had 3 times as many trans guys as the GM dealer, and they were always busy. I think I saw more trans work at the Ford dealership in the 6 months I worked there than the 2.5 years at the Pontiac/GMC dealership.

That is a pretty ridiculous failure though.

Overall the truck has been pretty trouble free, but a dipstick tube broken in HALF? Of all the stupid things to break!!!!

Incredibly frustrating from a small business owner perspective when you rely on these trucks everyday.

You never hear these stories about Hondas and Toyotas. . I thinks that's because their owners don't check fluids or pay attention..

Maybe it's a new feature like a turkey thermometer? If it pops out it's done>?

The HHR doesn't have one - so I guess GM has fixed this issue.

what's worst is - no matter who made the vehicle - the dealership won't do anything for you. Let's hope after a fluid and filter change and a new dip stick - the trans will still last a long time. hopefully the filter caught most of the nastiness that undoubtedly found it's way into the vacated dipstick hole.

Where you around long enough ago to get one of the soda bottles floating around inside the rear door? I thought that was a a line workers sign of vindictive creativity.

You KNOW I found those in my dealership days! And one had a note in it - something like "So you found me!". It was all a L O N G time ago.

I drove the Powertour without a fill plug on my 12 bolt. It's probably fine. ;)

~1" heater hose, slip it over, call it good

If the tube broke right above the mounting point to the block/head, I'd say you have a heavy handed employee inserting the dipstick back in.
