Gay ass Viper? Keef are you you ok? It's not the Viper look its the Viper tires and the hoops needed to put them in the right spot for the car. I suspect Scott is looking for something slightly less same 'ol, same 'ol than Rally's or Cragar SS's. I could be wrong but it's his call.

Gay ass corvettes sure, gay ass Viper's meh. They are traditional compensatory purchases.

Both the rally and Cragar SS look stupid in anything bigger than 15". Sticky street tires don't come in 15" period. Yes, they made race tires in that size, but try finding 15 inch tires with a 200 rating doesn't exist. Sorry. Since I have boxes of suspension parts about to go on the car, I need tires to hold the road. The BFG's can't hold the car now. I drive beyond their grip capability as it stands.

I don't like rally's on my car. Yes, they've been on there before. Rally's didn't make it onto a Chevy until 67 anyways.

I'm updating the car. As such, I'm updating the tires and wheels. I'm here looking for ideas.

what about Bart or similar "light weight" steel circle track wheels?

Sorry - they weigh 19# - not bad for steel wheels - but they only come in 15".

Sort of old school nascar look - not exactly what you're going for - but I'm in 100% agreement with the sentiment that new "euro" style wheels look awful on older American cars, and newer vette wheels have offsets that are totally wrong - I feel the same way about the modern "bullit" wheels on older mustangs - the offset kills the look. Older cars need some dish in the wheels for them to look right.

You asked for ideas - you've gotten 5 pages so far!

Billet Specialties has some nice stuff...

I like the Dyno and Rally in the conventional rim. The gray cast looks cool also...maybe a nice contrast to the black car. Looks like they are around $345 each...Don't know if thats in your wheelhouse, so to speak.

In 1985, Billet Specialties began producing accessories never before seen for the street rod industry. The attention to detail, fit, and finish were unprecedented.

I'm having a tough time with anything 5 spoked any more, but these kind of appealed to me. I like the FR500 wheel... if you get it real sticky, you may want to ask the guys on corner-carvers about busting the centers out of them? that's a big girl...

I've been pondering selling my wheels.. in case you're interested, but shipping to CA would probably be too expensive.

^^^^^^ Scott - if you like Bishir's wheels - for reference I think shipping would be $100ish based on : I sent a really heavy crankshaft (FE stroker) from Detroit to Randal in BFE - along with a set of inline 6 headers, and a set of conn rods - it came out to $100 for FedEx Ground - your boxes would smaller and total weight would be less I'd guess - those wheels are pretty light I'd imagine.

Go a bit higher- unless he ships greyhound, he's looking at around 250 for shipping. for a pair of 17x9s it cost me 45/wheel from here to texas.

My wheels were called Trakstar "S" Wheels. I had to custom order to get the 9.5" width in the rear and the bs needed to fit my GN , but they fit the Chevelle just fine though they could be wider. They were made for a short time by American Racing and no longer made. I cut the end off the centercaps and glue'd SS emblems on them for a more factory look.

I think these wheels would look great on the Impala:

Unless you go with a Miata sized 205/50/15 or a 225/45/15. You will not find any real performance tires in a 15 inch diameter.

I would go with a 17 inch wheel and at least a 255 section width...

As for style of wheel... Price and weight will dictate what you choose... There is a bunch to choose from...

Looks like style (aesthetics) won't have much to do with what you choose.
