With others, I will participate in the National Moment of Remembrance at 3pm on Monday. Rather than look at Monday as a day off work to guzzle beer and inhale burgers... I prefer to pay my respect and honor all of our servicemen and women who've given the ultimate to protect our freedom and liberty.Nitrous, baby!!...

Whatever my plans were for this weekend they were just changed an hour ago, I've got to drive up to around Portage, Wisconsin and back Saturday to take pictures of a Bus and then on Sunday I'll watch the Indy 500 untill the first 5 drivers have names that I can't pronounce then I'll shut it off and go out to the garage and change the Pinion seal and header gasket on the Hot Rod, Monday I'll have a bunch of yard work to catch up on and there may be a cookout, I'll find that out when my Wife starts talking to me again but other then that I'm not doing a dang thing! I'll also be thinking about those that gave their all!sigpic

I'm with jchariem, I'm going to do some car stuff today and tomorrow, sure. But I'll also read some good history, and reflect on my brothers and sisters who gave their last full measure of devotion to country and countrymen.
I've got no problem with beer and BBQ, but if it doesn't include at least some thought or mention of the reason you are able to have it at all, I don't have a lot of respect for you.
So enjoy the weekend, but how about taking just one minute to raise a glass and say a word for those who gave up all their three day party weekends for you?
This isn't a weekend to recognize veterans. That long weekend excuse for a party is November 11th. This weekend is about honoring our fallen. Not the wounded, not the retired. The dead.
Give them a passing thought, O.K.?

Yesterday was spent cleaning grave sites of family members and veterans ... The cemetary mows and hauls off the old flowers and deadfalls.. It s up to the families to clean the sites themselves... There are 4 sites i amd my kids clean annually that are of great and great great uncles whom have no family of their own... Sad to think... Lives lost in the Pacific in their late teens/early 20's.
I know there are more wars and veterans inbetween WW2 and now... It is that my branch is small and that one war really had an effect.. Makes me wonder how many branches of families actually perished...
