  • Found this interesting, a comparison of Hydrogen to Hydro-Carbons

The article is 47 pages, but starting around page 13 and going to page 30 it has an interesting (to me anyways) comparison between Hydrogen as a fuel to Hydrocarbons (Methane, propane, gasoline, diesel, etc.) Talks about BTU's/volume, BTU's/weight, flame/burn speed, Octane ratings, Auto-ignition temps, what happens when you get leaks, and a few other combustion properties relating to the internal combustion engine.

    Just thought I'd share:

If America shifts to a hydrogen economy I'd like to see an engine converted to run on hydrogen. It would need a specialized fuel system, and probably a new line of cams because of the different properties. If you ever seen the Mythbuster's episode where they test out different Increase Fuel Mileage Products they actually get a car to run by simply laying a hose connected to a hydrogen tank on top of a carburetor. It does fine until it backfires :o, for a poor way of metering fuel it gives me hope for the future.
