Re: these could be fun
That ad begs an obvious question....
Why the hell would anyone own 10 of those things?
Reason 1345 that America is the greatest country on Earth. People can and do own mass quantities of airplane drop style fuel tanks. Think that happens in France?
Not so much.

Reason 1345 is that the person who owns 10 drop tanks dont have to have any particula reason to own 10 drop tanks....
Two questions I have are
A. how are they brand new if theyare 1950's tanks......
B. How does one come to own 10 drop tanks

Re: these could be fun
I'd take the A-10 Centerline tank for a belly tanker. That thing is a monster though it could actually be a recycled F-100 tank. I'm thinking twin turbo Indy Aurora motor.Central TEXAS Sleeper

Notice that the wing tanks don't have that classic shape that comes to mind when you think about a tanker. The belly tanks are better suited for a classic streamliner, but no doubt, these are cool and at least he gives the dimensions.
Who's buying one?

being a former grunt rotor head, I'm suprised you didn't take a look at the A-10 tanks. If these are 3ft diameter by 21ft long they are close to the same size and I remember when I was hanging out with the Hog pilots at Pope they said the tanks were recycled off of one of the "century" fighters.Central TEXAS Sleeper

I think the "classic" belly tanker is usually based on a P-38 wing tank.

Re: these could be fun
Funny...the picture of the tank in bare metal makes me think Burt Monroe.
What would I do?
I'd take the drive train out of my tractor (162ci flattie 4-banger Continental, banjo Ford rear) with the exception of the transmission, which would have to be a six speed and try to make it go 100mph.
The more I am learning about LSR stuff, the more the maschoistic side of it appeals to me. The smaller and more obsolete the motor the more inviting it seems to hot rod it.
