  • Bang Shifters in Destin Florida?

Any of you guys near Destin Florida?

I will be there on the 12th thru the 18th for a conference if anyone wants to grab a sammich and a adult beverage.

This will be a horrible, horrible trip for me...I have to stay at a beach side resort for 6 days with ocean views for the balcony...then I have to deal with the smell of the salt air and the sound sof the ocean...then I will be forced to eat sea food...awful...just awful.

Again, the need for a sarcasm font is constantly revealing itself.

I'm 16hrs+/- away but it sounds like I should be there.

You think they'd get mad if I slept in the car in the parking lot?

I can be there in meehhhhhhhhh half or two thirds of a day.

How big is the parking lot suited for BSer's sleeping in cars after the condo fills up?

Make time to snorkel in Destin. It's like swimming in an aquarium. Seriously.

And take sunglasses. The beaches are downright blinding white when the sun hits 'em.

You've done something right Joe, to get a setup like that.

Parking lot is pretty big here, especially during the week as the rednecks from other states have not filtered in for the weekend yet.

The better part of my days will be in a conference reviewing C-130 inspection criteria. Revising inspection items adding new stuff, removing outdated stuff, pretty boring really. The only thing I did to get me a trip like this was get stuck in the same job for a really long time, learning all I can and becoming the local inspection guru. The best part of this is the potential networking I will be able to do. I will meet C-130 users and higher ups from all over the USAF which could set me up for a better job or even a civillian position later on. As always it's not about what you know, its WHO you know. This will be my second trip here, I went in 08 too.

The simple joy of being able to drink some Yeungling and eat some fresh sea food makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

C-130? Joe you'd love to "meet" my ex-ex-brother-in-law. C-130's as a loadmaster then AC-130's (saw action in Panama) then the postal service and now with a contractor that develops training materials for the 130.

Want his email address? I could PM it to ya. I think y'all would have a lot to talk about. In specific terms.

I am not one to strike up conversations with strangers...weird right?

Thats a good gig he has, develpoing training data...There are opportunities for guys like me to do that on the inside and if it did not reuire me to go to Utah for 4 years I would be all over it!

but to you original question, no thank you, I will respectfully decline your offer but I bet he has some cool stories to tell. As a C-130 loadmaster you get to go and see all sorts of cool stuff then to work the AC's..man thats very cool. I am a propulsion specialist...meaning I work propulsion systems..or engines and propellers in this case. 18.5 years and counting...fun times.

Understood and well taken Joe. I know there's a lot of 130 guys out there, but not a lot of us in society at large.

He did a 4-year gig as a loadmaster on the C-130 and then as incentive to re-up they completely promised he would remain on a 130, so he took it.

They didn't lie. Except that time it was an AC-130 stationed out of Hulbert. So now he had to shoot at things and people on the ground. He didn't like it, felt like he got tricked into it.

He told me the story about his plane's part in the mission to Panama to abduct Manuel Noriaga (sp?) That part's classified. It didn't go well. Nobody ask, my lips are sealed. He was drunk when he told me about it, he shouldn't have. Stuff I never needed to know.

Wish I was a little closer than 3 hrs or I would take you up on the cold drink offer. As long as you are stuck there, plan a trip to Bass Pro Shop. Always a good way to see what the other half can afford ! I always stop and get some "Kick yo Ass Chili" starter. Humm, Humm, HOT !

let me know if you are going to be there on Sunday. I know a Great restaurant that has a bucket of crawdads special . . . and ice cold BL's . . . and over looks the Marinia. Sights are pretty good this time of year too.

                    Love to eat,
                    Chef Dave

Dave I will be there around late afternoon on Sunday, hit me up with that name and I will be there like stink on...well, you know what.

The mall where the BPR is is something else too...all the high end stuff a working schlub like me cant afford. Such a pretty area, I wouldnt mind having to spend the rest of my life there...I tried to get an assignement there once but no dice...oh well.
