      Re: The Economy

the money is there no doubt. the thing is the poor have little chance of seeing it and the middle class mostly see it leave. :-\ as long as you start out with some cash and dont really need it per se the economy is just fine.

        Re: The Economy

Honestly so far my industry is benefiting from , or at least doing better than breaking even. We mine copper and at nearly $4.00/lb and gold as a by-product around $900/oz we are doing pretty good. We are running over budget on fuel and tire costs but the economics currently easily support it. It's only costing us around $1.60/lb to get the copper mined and to market (well smelter anyways). So with gold we are getting monthly production bonus checks, two months back to back have been 30% of my monthly income. (One intake manifold, another MegaSquirt and 2 WBO sensors/controllers). So far I'm lucky the global demand is high, mining is a BOOM and BUST industry, I hold no illusions that it'll last forever, but usually when the economy is doing great it's because commodity prices are down, and that's a bust for us. I'll worry about that when it happens though.
        Escaped on a technicality.

I haven't worked much for a long time....but wife works for DoD and uncle sam keeps her plenty busy! so I can't complain. Gas prices have put a damper on my driving around, not because we can't afford it....not really sure why....maybe it just feels weird to put $50 of regular gas in an old car with a not so big tank!

I'm thinking this relates to the Economy. I just sold a Liberty 5 speed Transmission, I only had a couple of calls from here in the states, the Serious buyers were from Australia, Aruba, England, Puerto Rica and Thailand?

                Re: The Economy

Doin' fine. My wife works for the city and my truck driving job pays pretty well even though I have come to hate it every day. Of course having no CC debt and a $300 dollar a month house payment helps. We each have about a 2 mile commute every day so gas prices aren't even that big of a deal, a tank of gas lasts about 6 weeks. We watch the news every night and see the doom and gloom going on and it's like were watching from the sidelines. Not much to complain about here.
Just groovin' to my own tune.

                  Re: The Economy

i think the economy is in worse shape then the politicians let on. the stimulus checks they sent out.. i saw them as a desperate move. the value of the dollar is way down, the price of oil way up. oil is the grease that lubes up the wheels of this country, food and everything else we need comes on a semi truck, and it costs more every day to fuel those trucks. the government seems to be doing what it can to sabotage this country's economy. i guess its how it goes, we will tolerate it until we cant anymore, then i guess we will have to decide whether we'd rather eat or start drilling for oil here and build more refineries and such. personally im for eating..

                    thank you mr sunshine

I don't think things are really that bad
GM has been in a depression for the past 7 years
thinks in the dealer have not been good since 1990 hours wise , my pontiac dealer is closing down in 2 weeks , but the owners are good people and I will go to their chrysler dealer for the same pay , with about 6 months chrysler experience in 1986 , 2 years jeep in 84-86
                    think things changed much ?
I could really zip when I rebuilt those carter 1 bbl carbs and 904 torqeflites

I work for a lock company. People are more willing to steal things when they are in desparate stuations .The other people what to keep there stuff so they buy locks .So you think that this would work out for me quite nicely. Except you then get to the point that no new office /commercial buildings are going up there it starts to look like it did before Reagan.

Do you think those stimulus checks will count as earned income next tax year? I think they are more or less just an advance. They don't have the money to give us and let us keep it.

Things in the auto industry are not too good as far as new car sales. Some smaller cars are selling well obviously. Parts and service haven't suffered so far, people are repairing cars it seems instead of buying new ones at the first sign of trouble. Probably not a bad idea if it's paid for.

Doing alright here. My wife handles the bills, and she is a frugal sort. I'm glad to have her. We live within our means and don't look at other people's stuff and get jealous.

We are busy at work. The first few months of the year were pretty slow, but we always are in February and March. April of this year was good, and so far May has been excellent. There is a lot of commercial buildings going up in our region, putting doors on those buildings is keeping us working.

Gotta run, I have a race to go to this afternoon.

thats not happening here , people don't buy cars anymore they lease them
which has killed our industry - repair wise

Michigan's economy sucks big time. Im extremely fortunate that my dad owns his own bussiness and that i have a great job too. But i know so many people in my area who are without a job. There are so many houses for sale on my street that cant sell. Just too bad
