  • Thinking of buying a 2009 CTS

Anyone on here have any experience with or opinions on the second gen CTS, specifically the 2009 CTS with the SFI 3.6 and AWD?

Looking at one for a daily driver, but I'm concerned about all of the timing chain failures that I've been reading about today.

Seems like this can happen if the car was ever run low on oil. Great car to test drive, but at 2500 to 3000 a whack to fix, I'm a little wary.

    Any thoughts?

Well, yeah, I mentioned being worried about that...

Any idea how common it really is?

I'd guess sudden load, awd- two wd.

not many engine like slamming around to it. maybe focus on keeping awd smooth....

the chain has a simple life until loaded.

We have one. 3.6, it has 70xxx on it and uses a quart every 1000 miles. It seems to run strong. already has rust spots. Maybe we got a bad egg, but its kinda rauing them for me.

I'm a huge Cadillac fan and collector but my daily driver is a Buick. The operating cost per mile is too high. Most everything on a Caddy, from blower motors to catalytic converters, is priced 50 to 100 percent more than other GM products just because it's a Cadillac, so even normal wear and tear is expensive. For daily commuting the extra cost isn't worth it to me. Maybe the CTS is different, but if so, it's the first one.

Just had a bunch of techs tell me that the 3.6 is a serious lemon. Bummer, as the rest of the car was really nice.

How about an older CTS-V instead?

Deck Officer bought a CTS-V, quit coming on here, gave up the T-buckets board he was the chairman of. I'd say don't do it...

SBG bought just the 3.6, sold the Buick, and is driving a Corvette now.

                          Your choice.. just sayin.
