    The "wave"

Many years ago there was a comic strip in the Sunday funnies titled "Shoe". In one of the strips that I had cut out and lost over the years was a bit that went something like this.

    - "Hey, did you ever notice motorcycle riders low wave at each other when they pass by?"

    - "Yeah, and Jeep owners give a thumbs up"

The next one eludes me but the last frame said something like...

    - "Yes and Desoto owners pass bythey wave tool boxes"

Anyway, I have never seen anyone "wave" except motorcycle riders. I always thought it was cool, like your a part of some secret organization or something.

I noticed recently that apparently Mustang owners do the same thing. As I drive on base and downtown and pass by other Mustangs I always get a "wave of aknowledgement"

What is odd is that I have never recieved said wave untill I blacked out the front end and the hood. The wave only comes from owners of newer modles (06 to present)

Seems I am now part of some Blue Oval cult...

    Anyone else get the wave?

I never get a wave. I seem to be in a realm that snaps dumbasses...without even speaking.
stereotypes, ones own downfall...real shame. being older, I could care less, especially if the picture of reality is bigger than a cult.
the older 80s monte ss and grand prix le, 74 chevelle...that got waves.

I also found pickup drivers, they wave to whatever cult..like a truck is a safe nuetral when the other ride is not riding.

I get waves and thumbs up a lot. Yesterday, some guy was frantically trying to get his camera app on his iphone as idled by in a parking lot.

The red 98 blends in, even other F body owners ignore it up here. Drive the GTO or a 2nd gen bird and suddenly everyone is waving, trying to get a pic, starting up a conversation at a stoplight, or screaming how much they love the car while going through an intersection.

It might be regional. In Nebraska, everyone not on I80 waves, usually its lifting their index finger on the steering wheel as they pass you. Sometimes its a full on wave. I got out of the habit years ago when driving in the south and Europe. In Charleston all the F body owners would wave or throw a rev to each other, and often people in muscle cars would throw a rev if they didnt know you, and wave if they do. I still might put it in neutral and throw a rev to someone in a cool car going by up here, and almost always back home in Nebraska. In my blue car it can scare the hell out of the guy in the minivan when I take it up to 6500rpm.

Jap bikes wave at jap bikes
              Harley wave at Harley....
Lord forbid a jap bike wave at a Harley or vise versa...
              FJ40 Landcruisers give the wave
OTR truckers do too..Old days there was a wave to tell others how far down the road he Smokey was...
Get thumbs up in the 57... Had one old lady come up to look in my side windows.. (sedan delivery)
I would imagine Porsche, BMW(if they aren't snooty) and cult cars do the wave...

Some wave, some don't. I like it... I have one ride that stands out a little (rumbling little Ranger) and an invisible one (Mustang).

Around here, many people driving any sort of pre 70s car will usually wave (or wave back when I initiate) as I'm out driving in whatever classic or hot rod I might be in, be it mine or someone else's.

                      cheers

I have the same experience as Russell here in NC. Not sure if it's a NC thing but I notice it especially on our circle.

Back when I had my Roadrunners as DDs we all "Meep-Meep"ed each other when you passed another Roadrunner. The goal was to make it sound as much like the cartoon as possible. Careful manipulation of the horn ring would alter the horn a bit.

Joe, it's darned near freaky I get home from work and this thread is going. Freaky because about halfway home from work I knew the first thing I was going to do was to start a thread about waving!

Because today I was driving Red home and met three Mustangs, and I waved at all of them and they didn't respond at all and I was wondering....

OH, and I met Pa Kettle, too! There he is, going at most 10 mph through the S-curves in front of the gated palace, cars backed up behind him. There's nowhere to pull off there! So now I believe he actually did pull over to let me by the other day not because of how I was behaving in his mirror, but because he was holding up traffic. Today he looked like he was shittin' bricks....ohhhhhh another CURVE!!! And cars behind me!!!! Poor guy, he still gets there and back, though, obviously.

What I've noticed is that it is not every Mustang, but ones that have been modified in some way. Either by paint, lowering, wheels ect. ect. it seems that these folks are proud of their cars and treat them as a baby not as a utility. Some folks recognize it and seem to have soem sort of unseen universal bond. I have yet to initiate a wave, but I almost always get a wave from the same cars as we pass, especially on base when almost everyones schedule is the same. Keep in mind I dont know any of these folks. It is not a big "hey how ya doing long time no see" wave, just a lift of the hand off the wheel as they pass.
