my first go is hammer welding as well..but I caught onto a sweet geometry while hammer slo and steel cold. winning molecular..
it is addictive if you get into it.

I'll make my own quarters next time..I bought rounded ones pressed all at once. no clue it could be made by hand.
I also found hammer welding..one can reveal an error of rib that may need to happen, unexpected..steel deciphers itself while you get what you want.

That is incredible. I will have to check out his stuff on the tube when I get time.
I wonder how many hours that took? My dad has done bodywork and restorations for 40+ years. I have seen him do some cool stuff, but I'm pretty sure he would do this in pieces and hammer weld it all together.

When I was a Mac Tool Man I had a young guy in a Body Shop had skills just like that, went out of bussiness, no one would pay for that kind of work at the time. He would not turn hack dont know what he does now but his skills are wasted

That's what I said to Monica when we watched this - wanna see a 10,000.00 fender? The skillset is unbelievable.


Your story is sad and all too frequently true. Maybe somebody like Leno could afford him, or somebody restoring Deusenburgs or needing coachwork on a Rolls. The more disposable of a society we become the more of these skills are lost. People will pay for them when the lights go out though.

When I first the the post I thought some one did a stupid human trick like a burn out gone bad on a Hemi Cuda or something.

I'm thrilled to death when I can make a 1" saddle on a 1/2" piece of EMT and have it fit. Gawd I hate people with talent. That was incredble Thanks for posting. Unfortunately as Jeff said, having that talent is one thing and finding some one to pay is equally as hard.

I've seen body guys repair crash damage with similar tools, that's impressive. This is 10x that skill. Wow!

I've done quite a bit of body work but I know what I am - a hack and a parts changer. I keep cars out of the wrecking yard at best. This man is an artist. I bow to a master.
