  • Re: Short Intro's

    James Baker, Swansea IL.
I have a 1968 Chevy II; I bought the car in Oct 1985 for $1200. (No motor or Trans) It had been a drag car for several years. I put the car back on the street with a SBC and4 speed. It's been painted twice, had 2 engines (been rebuilt a time or 4) a 350 and a 454, 460 and now a 468. I have had a M-20, 21 and 22 a Richmond 5 speed, Power glide and T-350 in the car. I have 5.13, 4.88 4.56 4.10 and 3.42 gears in it. The best the car has ever ran was 7.42 in the 1/8 and 11.40 @ 122 in the 1/4. I have driven it everyday at times right now it's more of a hanger queen. I have done the drag thing the show thing and cruse thing. I plan returning to the races this year and hoping to get the back as fast as it used to be. Last summer I ran a best new time of 7.59 @ 96 mph. I’d like to get the car to run as fast as it used to with the more radical 454 and 4 speed. I plan upgrading to a better convertor and maybe a transbrake.
I’m in the USAF stationed at Scott AFB; I have been in almost 15 years and plan on retiring at 20 years. I’d like to own a parts store when I retire.

Herman's the real name and I'm from the Netherlands, Europe.
Been a American car-fan ever since I started seeing the old well known '80s TV-series like the A-Team, Knightrider, Starsky&Hutch and Dukes of Hazard and movies like Bandit, Convoi, The Car, The Duel, Christine and such.

The first American car I owned was a 1978 Pontiac Bonneville. A little later on I bought my first Mopar-product, a '67 Chrysler Newport, and I was hooked for live on "Mopar". Bought my 2nd Mopar, a stretched 1964 Chrysler Newport shortly after that and the Pontiac got sold. I own 6 cars now in various states of progress.
I do all my own wrenching on my cars, including rebuilding/upgrading engines, transmissions and setting up rear axles for instance. Check my homepage for some pics of the cars I own... www.BigBlockMopar.nl

I work fulltime in a printshop, often doing DesktopPublising on a Mac (ofcourse ;) ) or, working with a large 60" wide HP DesignJet colorprinter, vinylcutter or CD/DVD-copier/printer.

      Next to this I also do some webhosting and run a few websites/forums of my own;

      www.DutchMuscleCars.com (Dutch)
      www.FullSizeChryslers.com (English)
      www.Mopar.nl (Dutch Mopar Club website)

I'm also responsible for the layout of a Dutch bi-monthly magazine called "KR8 Cruise Magazine". 'KR8' is pronounced as the dutch word 'Kracht', meaning "Power" but with the '8' (acht) of the American V8 used in these cars.

          Hi..

Marc from Calgary Alberta, I've been hot rodding since I was 14 when my dad brought home a 6 pack intake and 3 2 barrel rodchesters for his '62 Cadillac - we rebuilt them on the kitchen table... . That was over 36 years ago...

I've had over 35 cars and been invovled in drag racing on and off over the years including running stock eliminator. Currently helping a team go fast on the salt with a vortec 4200 powered Opel GT.

Current rides are a '83 malibu wagon which is my daily summer ride and a '51 GMC powered by a vortec 4200. The GMC is on its way to becoming the quickest ride that I've owned. I also have a '79 Camaro which has been in the family since new and is currently parked until the GMC is farther along.

I've been involved with the megasquirt EFI set up since it came out, both the wagon and GMC are using it.

My day job is electro/mechanical design for a defense contractor and thats about as much as I can say about it.

Glad to be part of a larger group here.

          Thanks for looking.

            Hello Everyone
First off congratulations to David and Chad on this new venture. I hope it is quite successful.
My name is Ross Dudley and I live in Cobourg Ontario Canada. I have 5 daughters and that is all you guys are going to get on that subject.
I have been a car guy as long as I can remember and started drag racing when the starters still used flags ( I should see if I can find an old set for that guy on pinks!!! ). I drifted away from the hobby in the 70's but became sane again in the late 80's when I got a new wife . In 1995 I purchased a 1968 road runner to replicate the one I had bought new in 68 to terrorize the local Chevy and Ford guys.. When I finished the car in 2002 I was quite excited and of course started doing the cruise and car show circuit. ......... Fast forward to 2003 when I was laying in a hospital room with some major medical problems thinking of what comes next when I realized Road Runners were built to be beat on and it was about time I started doing this with mine or I would run out of time. The rest is history as they say and through this reunion with the track and traffic I have met some wonderful people, a lot of who are on this board and over on moparts.
Myself and some friends did DW06 and I tried to win the hard luck award for the week but David did not think running out of bullets in Chicago Heights was such a big deal as everyone else that survived was low as well.
During DW07 I tried for Davids $100 bill by kissing Kannan in a restaurant some were in Wisconsin but my cameraman was not quick enough( for any closet persons out there it wasn't worth a $100 anyway ).
Keith I know you said short intro but I was so long getting around to this I thought I would make it worthwhile EH!

                John
                aka milner351

I currently reside in the beautifull metropolis of Belleville Michigan - between Ann Arbor and Dearborn along the most heavily travelled semi truck route in the nation - good old I94.

I grew up in the suburbs south of Chicago where I had the great fortune of attending a highschool that still believed in offering "industrial arts" classes. I had the best auto shop teacher on the planet. In two short years I went from not knowing the difference between a 1/2 and a 9/16 to being able to rebuild engines, carburetors, distributors, brakes, alternators, front ends, you name it - I owe my life's work to Ken Echternach - recently retired autoshop teacher from HF high school.

From there I went to WMU in Kalamazoo to get a degree - which started out auto tech and turned into Mechanical Engineering when I learned from a friends Dad at Ford about these magical things known as Engine dyno's - and what went on there.

It took 5 years at Honda to get to Ford - and I've been here since 2000. I've still not made it to the engine dyno - but I'm still employed so I'm not complaining.

I've had a lot of car adventures, lately I figured out my '69 fastback is an R code 428 car, so I'm going to do a driver restoration of that,

my wife purchased a 54 belair sedan from her parents during a divorce - it's all stock save for radial tires and a pertronix ignition and stainless brake lines -- it really needs
an overdrive auto and a "REAL" driveshaft and axle

I recently traded a set of trick flow sbf heads for a '86 Ranger pick up with a 351c4v / c6 in it - that's the new drag truck...

I also spent way too many hours in the past few years restoring a '86 supra ski boat with 351w 4v power - after getting it in the water for the first time - it repaid me with at least 20 trouble free hours of operation before puking the trans -- that's high on the winter season to do list!
There's always something new to learn.

                  Hey guys, Brian Rock here.
The problem I have with this new forum is there is just WAAAAY too much stuff to read! But that's a good thing. ;D

I live in Santa Maria, CA with my fantastic wife and two young sons. I can't believe that she keeps telling me that she thinks she's ready for us to do another car!!!!!!!

I'm the parts manager at a Pontiac, Buick, GMC, Subaru, and Hyundai dealership, and have been a parts guy for twenty years.
We have four vehicles in the fleet. The '65 GTO is a one owner car (Well Dad bought it new anyhow) and was the first car I ever rode in. Heck, I was probably conceived in it for all I know!
We also have a 2005 GTO, 1997 Firebird, and a crew cab Duramax GMC that the wife drives everyday. Everything is bone stock with the exception of the '65.

We have a great batch of local friends to do car stuff with, and I'm so lucky to have my group of extended buddies from events like Anti-Tour and Drag Week!

Looking foreward to making some new friends here too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm JD, I know the Land Speed guys here and feel sorry for Tonya. I'm glad Keith quit smoking; now if I can get him off diet Coke and on to RC he will be a much happier guy and I'll be able to steal one when I see him.

I too am a 200 MPH club member waiting 29 years to get in. I don't have any street rods, I'd rather cut them up and race them. When the weather's right I ride a restored '39 Indian Sport Scout. My Dad bought it in 1943. By the way, in SoCal the weather's right everyday. I've been the SCTA for 33 years and worked at too many meets to count. Everyone should race a roadster..Period.

I've been know to give people a hard time. They all deserved it. At my funeral some day I've left a request to the speaker to have every one who thought I was an a--hole to raise their hand. I'd better see a lot with 2 up. ;D

Good Luck to Dave and Chad...........................

                        Hi Fellas,

My name is Sean Taylor, I am a son of a mechanic. I grew up here in So Cal listening to my Dad's stories of how things where in the 60's of him cruising Whittier Blvd. He drove a 31 Ford coupe with a Duntov cammed 301 Chevy, muncie four speed and a 57 Olds rear with 4:11 posi. He still has the coupe and should be on the road soon. My Dad took me to every car show, swap meet and junk yard from day one. I really enjoy reading and looking at ALL cars.

I did the graphic artist ad agency thing for 10 years. The last few years I have been working (playing around) with die cast cars. I do everything from paint schemes to packaging. I just left Muscle Machines to help start a new die cast company, more info to come shortly. On my free time, I am also the artist for www.vintagedragclub.com.

My daily driver is a 1965 Buick Sport Wagon (Buick's version of the Vista Cruiser). It has a 383 SBC, turbo 350 and a 12 bolt posi with 3:42. I still have my first car, a 1972 Chevelle SS (I cloned it in the early 90's) that I have had since 1988. I hope to tear into the Chevelle this next year and redo everything.

Sean, I those are coolest wagons ever. My parents had one when I was born. We had it until I was 9 years old. I'm pretty sure I was brought home from the hospital in it. Dad drove it to Fairbanks Alaska. He had a custom made futon that fit the back with the seat down and slept in it while driving up there. My sister and I slept back there on many road trips. We left it in Okinawa we got transferred back to Omaha in 76. I'm sure it has rusted completely away by now.

Here he is on the Al-Can highway after he drove off the road for the second time.

I picked up my wagon about 3 years ago. I wasn't looking for a wagon, it found me. My grandmother had a '68 Buick Sport Wagon, so I had fond memories of riding in the back with all the other grandkids.
