Today is a slow day at work so my bosses said to do something with the airmen. I decided we would all go to breakfast. I have 15 people on shift today and we all went to a local breakfast joint to grab some chow. There was another table of 15 right next to us, all of them at least 65 and up from there. Many wore military related items, hats/pins ect.ect. I had to laugh to myself, stark contrast to our table of 15...but they were having as much fun as we were eating and telling lies. This thread came to mind.

I plan on being ornery. They seem to live forever. And, my brain to mouth filter will no longer function.

25 or 30 years ago there were standards for older folks. You stopped wearing Jeans, and t-shirts. You stopped things like racing cars and started crap like golf. There were things you did and things you did not do. I often think about my dad when he was my age (not too damn long ago) and he had pretty much grown old by traditional standards. He gave up cars, friends, golf, 4 wheeling and anything else he may have enjoyed and became a home body. I told my wife if I ever get to the point where I lose interest in cars, bikes, mechanics, drawing, toys, weight lifting, football, playinmg with the kids and all the other stuff I enjoy....kill me.

Take for instance some of the guys I have had the pleasure of becoming aquainted with on this forum. Many are quite a bit older than me but they still have a good time, play with cars, hang out with friends...when I was a kid, guys of their age didnt do stuff like that. They were old, the sat in the donut shops and local greasy spoons and swapped war stories.

My brother's former FIL was extremely active, at 86 he still played golf constantly and skied frequently. I saw him at a family gathering and said "Albert, how's the golf game?" He responded "well, haven't been out with the foursome for awhile. One guy's wife died and he hasn't been up to it, another guy had surgery and isn't ready to play, and the last guy is just getting old." I said, "well what are you going to do Albert?" "Get younger friends" was his reply.

I'm not sure how to characterize "Senior" or "old." I think its a state of being, not a chronological age.

My Dad is in a Nursing Home right now, he's in there for Therapy and recovering from having a Pacemaker installed (implanted is probably the correct word) December 10th and he gets out and goes home this Saturday. I asked him if he'd met or talked to anybody in the Dining room where everybody goes for their meals 3 times a day, he said "no there's just a bunch of old people in there that can't hear", Dad is 94 years old and refuses to wear his hearing aids, LOL!

I had a good friend that I was having coffee with one day who said what day is it today and when I told him it was Thursday he looked at me and said ho no and when I asked him what was wrong he looked at me and said the following.

I have to go to the home today and visit my mother who is in her late 80's and I hate to go there.

I looked at him to told him how lucky he was to still have a mother to go visit and offer help to her.

My parents both have been died for years and I would give anything to go see them again.

Getting old is something we will all face someday. Think about that next time they say something off the cuff!!!!!!!!

Dunno... Going to see anybody in a home is HARD!
You see a confused shell of a person that was.. Who is constantly angry because they are stuck " with these crazy people"
I'd rather go with my mind than to linger on for years not knowing anybody.
Mother in law, aunt and now mom is starting to show signs.. Watched grandma and grandpa waste away in homes..

Old people are interesting to me. They both irritate and intigue me.

The lack of give a shit is entertaining to me except when it is directed at me....but it's okay because I lack the give a shit most people my age should have. So it tends to get interesting. For instance (call me an ass if you want) one day I was in the commisary (base grocery store), on any given day it is old people heaven the go there to shop and to socialize. Anyway, one old bastard with a oxygen tank and his motorized scooter bumped into me...then promptly started to bitch me out THEN ran over my daughters foot....So I kicked his Lark as hard as I could and MF'd him three ways to Sunday....What makes old folks think stuff like this is okay

Then there are the elderly gym rats...they ones that roam around the locker room naked as a jay bird with their old franks and beans flopping every which way...then they want to talk to you...naked...damn man, put on a damn towel. And the sauna...forgetaboutit...naked, old balls hanging out...ugh, no shame...no shame at all....

I cant wait til its me...I am going to make soooooo many people miserable....soooo many people.

There's a guy that hangs around when we build derby cars.. Never goes to the derbys, just hands wrenches or runs after drinks says he is too old for that. We call him Old man.. Looks and acts it too.. One day we asked how old he was, he said OLD!.. my son said, "dad just turned 58". He hemmed and hawed.. Admitted he was born in 65.. 47 years old and looks and acts 70!

I guess age and old and senior are merely frame of mind?

Peewee, seniors, by definition ARE old. They don't get old somewhere along the path of senior-ness, they are seniors due to their age.

Thanks for the laugh, once again!
