One breeze change and it'd be a lot worse. That's freakin' insane. And I'm sure the FAA will jam a foot or two where it seems to be deserved in this case.

If his LOA was expired, he might get in some trouble. The other issue is someone being on what appears to be an active public runway, it might be worse for the guy on the ATV. But as far as "stunts" go, that guy is a professional and gets way crazier and closer than that. It might blow your mind, but you can literally DRAG a wingtip on the pavement and dirt without losing control, I've seen aluminum protectors on wing tips for that very reason. Sounds weird but it's pretty normal for the airshow crowd. Have you seen any performances by that guy, he does a lot crazier stuff than what is seen here.

I saw a kc135 do that with its wing on video in the desert...on purpose.

I have to think the uproar in this case is that the plane missed a human on the ground by about a foot or two, maybe less (the person with the camera).

I for one hope that nothing comes of the first video because there are youtubes of lots more dangerous stuff out there. I personally don't care if people kill themselves doing stunts because the world's going to be a whole lot more boring place if the Feds step in and crack down on those guys. On the flip side, maybe if the feds outlaw EVERYTHING fun eventually we can all attend "virtual airshows" without having to get off the couch...

I've gotta agree, to a point, Maybe Bryan and Ed can tell us what the clearance regulations are, the how-many-feet you have to keep the airplane away from structures and humans.

That video, yeah, there was something real wrong with that. Hot Pants will probably lose his flying license, and rightfully so.

I have a pilots license so I can tell you what the "general" rules are: 1000' from structures and people on the ground unless you are in the landing pattern or on approach.

However most aerobatic guys get a Letter of Authorization to perform or practice stunts, sounds like this guys had expired according to the news cast.

When Felix jumped out of that balloon space capsule a hundred thousand million miles above earth, that was calculated. He and his team had worked for about ten years to do that.

That one pass by that airplane....that was just wrong. That's all that was. That was wrong. But he got away with it. By a bug's drop of sweat on the bug's ass close. Skill? Yeah. Luck, more so. Risk? Absurd.

There are rules that apply to various types of airspace.....controlled, non-controlled, traffic areas, and other rules that can change what's legal and what is not, concerning minimum altitudes, as well as minimum clearances from people and structures. This happened on an airport, where airplanes are allowed to touch the ground, legally. That said, it sounds as if his 'license' to perform what would normally be considered "reckless and dangerous operations" was expired, so IMO he will be severely dealt with by the Feds. Chances are that he and his group were working on a new 'stunt', but without knowing his status, I can't say.......but it was pretty stupid to do it, and double stupid to go public with it........

Well by all means, call the FAA and let them know just how bad it hurts your feelings, and let Youtube know while you're at it that it's just plain wrong to have that kind of stuff online. Maybe the Feds can issue all of us our own personal airbag we can strap on so the world is safer and you don't have to be worried anymore.
