L-88 hood, DeLorean PVR . . . oops . . . wrong thread.
Yes, these photos are of OPELs, not "Dimes," but the Steinmetz-style box flares looks a lot more elegant than the bulky late BRE box flares.
As for the mill . . . It'd be hard to resist a modern DOHC turbo or maybe a simple turbo SBF.

It seemed these and the Toyo Corrollas of the early 70's were cars of choice back in my pizza delivery days.
Just groovin' to my own tune.

^^^this,
I dig the little Datsuns....there is one running around the base here with a I4 and some side draft carbs, sounds like a billion pissed of hornets and from what I have seen...it goes like hell....If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue

A stock 510 was a decent car for putzin' around in, there was one I used to borrow sometimes. I always thought the BRE-style ones were pretty cool. Any 510 now gets the looks from guys who were there back in the day, and many kids too.
But you never saw them in the L.A./Malibu canyons when I was there...1600cc was not enough and the semi-trailing arm rr suspension is kind-of a smooth-pavement deal only. A built V6 Capri (pre-Fox) or even my IECO-hotrodded Vega 2.3 would eat 'em alive on those roads. I would hear about swapping in Datsun 2000 roadster motors but never saw one. BMW 2002s were also oddly rare...I guess it goes along with the deal where if you can't afford to wreck it, you can't afford to race it. All the guys with the pricey stuff tended to congregate on corner turnouts and usually not go testing themselves in public.
To have a 510 now would be a hoot, given that a couple-hundred horsepower and better suspension is more do-able these days. Roll cage and belts!...
