Nice, not the Cummins nice...but nice. I would consider one, I wonder if it will be availible with 4wd and a standard trans.

It mentions that they are available in the Cherokee already?

yeah, I have seen a couple of them but not many...I wonder how many units they have sold. Also, what is the cost of the diesel package. If its really high it would negate the fuel cost savings...

Maria Mopar seems to be aggressively pursuing fuel economy tech in the Ram . . . that bitchin 8-speed . . . the computer-controlled radiator shutters . . . and now a half-ton diesel package.

Let's all hope FIAT gets sufficient return on investment in the New World to keep the tech flowing.

Light diesel in America would have happened long ago but for: (a) GM's Oldsmobile diesel fiasco & (b) protectionist emission laws.

CAFE standards will make diesel much more commonplace over the next twelve years.

Hopefully the cost comes down, but then it wont matter because the cost of diesel will just sky rocket. It already aint cheap.

I believe that is a Mercedes diesel - they used some in the Liberty (a smaller one, like the Sprints? Can't remember...) and this one in the Cherokee, but when I checked it was only 368 ft. lbs. .. 420 will be amusing in a shortbed regular cab.

No, this engine is not the old Mercedes-built unit that tended to be problematic. It is a new engine built by an Italian company. I just hope Ford and Chevy follow suit. I'd love to see full size half-ton trucks getting close to 30 mpg and making 420ft-lbs.

Search trucks for sale, research truck models and read the latest truck news at Cars.com.
                Still plays with trucks....

GM was supposed to have one out a long time ago but after the government took over it seems it was shelved. They said it was planned for light duty trucks and full size cars. Give me diesel over some dumpy hybrid anyday.

If GM pulls the 4.5L baby Duramax V8 off the shelf and sticks it in a half ton, I may be arrested for doing lewd things in public.

4.5 liter that was it! Could have been a contender,I hope they bring it out.

they were there in the 80s.

the 6.5 was the peak of the number games, without turbo.
that would be a good lightweight today. an LS crankcase type diesel. Easy for them.

I do not understand why they have not.
