Okay, I found out the scoop on the T-R seven.
It had a 350/350 with a 9 inch Ford in it. The mounts for the engine are nicely done and are still there. When dad got it the 9 inch was gone so he found a triumph rear end and put that back in it. There is no rust. the top is There but it is basically shot. He has kept the top covered continuously so that it would not leak inside. The trunk floor has been cut for a fuel cell. It has four aluminum wheels on it. He has a clear title. It is located in Florence Arizona. You can have it for $650.
Sorry if this seems like an ad, just trying to help out.

Now for the hard part. Logistics.
Would he be able/willing to help load? Assuming I work something out with shipping a dead car?Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.

I like the TR7; In fact I'm working on one right now as my current project car, '80 injected Spider edition. Got strut inserts, urethane spring pads, Strut roller bearing kit, and a new Robbins Haartz canvas top on order. I think it already has aftermarket springs. Fixed up the interior really nicely last Fall, including new uphostery on the seats.
It runs pretty good for a stocker. I'm going to buck the trend and build the OEM 8V slant four. I actually dig those motors!
I used to have a tin-top version back in the mid '90's with a header and dual DCOE 40's, and before that a Dolomite 1850HL that I built on a budget. The Dolomite was by far the faster of the two. That thing would eat other sports sedans for lunch (BMW, MB, Alpha, etc)with a fully ported 8v head and intake, cam, and compression - even with the stock exhaust maniold (couldn't afford a header) and reworked OEM dual Strombergs. The Dolly would have run circles around the TR, proving head, cam and compression are worth more than a radical induction and header on a stock low compression slant four.
I'm just sorry that I threw away the two extra heads I had back when I junked my old TR7; I could be porting right now! I would have never guessed I'd get another TR7 back then. It got hit three times while daily driving it in LA (yeah, payday!), then finally sideswiped beyond repair while parked by a furniture truck (Hit and run, but found them and Payday!). Stripped off the Webbers (sold separately for good money) and sold the beat hulk in the vehicle scrappage program (payday!). I made a fortune off that thing.
