  • Question for guys who ride motorcycles.

I've noticed that when in a group, you guys always have at least one person riding right on the yellow center line, placing yourselves right out there as the sacrificial offering to distracted drivers in the oncoming lane.. Most often it is the first and last riders, with another somewhere in the middle of the pack.

I would like to start riding again myself and I am wondering if this is something I will be expected to do. Is it an initiation of sorts, hazing, or do you just draw straws?

Seriously, I see this so much I wonder what the hell is going on in their heads. I stay on my side of the road and I am courteous to m.c. riders and keep my distance from them. If you connect with my towing mirror, I hope you like your new look. I stay on my side, how about you do the same.

I don't really expect anyone to reply to this, it's just a rant. Okay, I feel better now.

Your entitled to your lane... only an idiot would ride into it from the oppisite direction.... Sounds like you've got a new mirror that will correct the gene pool... Perfect.

VT, I agree with you .
And here in Pa they have this new trick. when a bunch of guys are riding ,two of them will stop in an interrsection to block it so the rest can go through after the light changed. so I guess 10 HDs are above the law.
I have a bumper sticker for my 56 Olds,"My car is more American than your Harley" !

I wasnt picking on them, but they are the majority of group riders. Ive had numerous HDs and other bikes.

oh, take it easy man, I rode with a group of about 12 (maybe 14) or so yesterday (which I don't usually do) and there were only 4 sports bikes, the rest were hogs and cruisers...so we had a little fun with each other....

Re: Question for guys who ride motorcycles.

I usually ride alone, but if I'm with someone else, we ride next to each other. I've never ridden with someone that would sacrifice themself.

One thing I have noticed is a lot of riders use their leg to indicate a lane change. Where did that start?

There's Harley's and Harley powered stuff out there that will flat out beat GSXR 1000's, busa's, etc.. Rare but they exist. I've only witnessed the straight line stuff though. As a general statement you are correct.

Yeah Ryan, they're called Nitro Harleys...he he.

The Harley Destroyer factory drag bike is one motorcycle that I can actually lust over.

I mean hell...it COMES with a wheelie bar.

VT, that sounds like a staggered formation gone wrong. The idea is to have the bike on the opposite side of the road from the bike ahead of you so if he has to stop you can go past him and have a little more stopping distance. The lead rider is often on the left so he can see around cars if they need to do a passing maneuver. But you're not supposed to get that close to the double yellow like that.

Only if you put oil in it! ;)
