  • Retorqueing ARP Sealant headbolts

    Howdy,

I torqued my heads down on ARP sealant on ARP studs about 2 months ago and since the studs are new I want to cycle them a few times but I'm worried that the sealant will give when I do. Is it best to just pull them and redo them or am I cool to cylce them now? the engine has never been fired.

I would think, since you've studded it, only the nuts will back off.
The sealer should keep the studs in place.

The studs should be at 0 TQ or they will split the block when it gets hot. I would heat cycle it first then re-TQ but you should have no problem backing them of 1/4 turn to re-TQ

studs where run down to the deck by hand or with a bit of help from a pair of chanell locks and a rag. I then droped the heads over the top and torqued down the studs in 10lb ft steps. I put the sealer/lube on the studs going into the deck then on the underside of the washer and on the inside of the nuts when torquing those down.

As Jeff said, it should be ok, but heat cycling is recommended.
