That is awesome and can somewhat relate.........last May while I was in Indy, I got on the
elevator at the Omni and low and behold Mario Andretti was on it.
He was in town for the time trials.
Just him and me on the elevator.......spoke with him on the ride down....a real cool guy.
Of course all my buddies wanted proof.......didn't even think to take pic with phone camera..

Take a tape recorder.. With permission of course, chat about what he did.. Might be a book in it?Leave a comment:

I wish I could plug in and download his brain contents. I'm sure he's forgotten more about life that I have ever learned.Leave a comment:

VERY cool! I had the chance to meet Ed Iskendarian at Bonneville a couple of years ago. I seriously didn't want to ever wash that hand again. Remember to fire up that camera in your mind and take lifelong pics - you'll have them forever. I have some shots like that of Scooter Brothers (Comp Cams) - nice guy and more like a banker than a "Scooter".

If you get the chance to speak with him again, I'd be interested to hear about the twin engine car and how it drove with and without the body on it. His twin had a fully enclosed and streamlined body covering it at one point It looked awesome...wonder how it drove.Leave a comment:

As if his motorsports accolades were not enough, he was a Japanese POW in WWII and was among those forced to build the Burma railroad!
His photo album/scrapbooks had plenty about that chapter of his life too.Leave a comment:

Pretty cool and go back!!!!, enjoy the time you can have while the guy is still living..... That is one of the things I miss the most, is walking into Loper's and talking with John Sr..... He was one of the first in the 5's in funny car back in the day, and always had a good story to tell.......Leave a comment:

I love that answer.Originally posted by BBR View PostBest part is, he said to come back anytime.
Early setup - twin SBC's with Paxton or McCulloch SC's. he later switched to GMC's

I asked what his favorite engine to hot rod was...... drum roll please....
289 Ford.
Surprised the heck out of me.
closer to a 3.8l benz crank 8 cyl.
I don't know history, am glad some people get to witness it.Leave a comment:

FANTASTIC!
It's amazing how down to earth some of these guys can be - with a trophy case like that - still humble and gracious - great stuff indeed!Leave a comment:

Man, that is effing awesome. Moss was one of the first guys to build a side by side twin engine dragster in the 1950s and during his time he was known as one of the baddest sons of guns in the country his early dragsters were trend setters, too.
Dude, very cool!Leave a comment:

HOLY EFFIN' CRAP - Just met an icon of drag racing history.
I had the opportunity this morning to go out to Jack Moss' house and have a cup of coffee and listen to some of his stories. I also got to look through his photo albums and it literally BLEW MY MIND. Pics that Wally Parks himself took of Jack racing with a little personal note written on them.
DEEEEAAAAAAAAMMMMNNNN.. I feel like I've been in the presence of Drag Racing Royalty. This guy's trophy case is freakin' amazing. Gokart trophies, circle track trophies, drag racing trophies, motorcycle racing trophies, Mint 400 trophies, an NHRA lifetime achievement Wally, etc etc etc.
I knew Jack was a local legend and all, but I had no idea the things this guy has done and the people he knew.
I'm absolutely blown away right now. The pic below is: Jack Seale (my next door neighbor's brother-n-law and friend of Jack Moss), Jack Moss, and me.Last edited by BBR; March 20, 2013, 08:57 AM.Tags: None
