The 2014 Camaro Z/28 gets the LS7 7.0-liter aluminum V8 engine from the Corvette Z06. The engine is rated at 500 horsepower. The only transmission available is a Tremec six-speed manual.

The idea behind the 2014 Z/28 was to strip out weight. The front seats use manual adjusters to keep the weight down, and air-conditioning is optional. The pass-through was also eliminated from the rear seatback, saving 9 pounds.

Al Oppenheiser, the Camaro's chief engineer, described the Z/28 as "too track-focused for most drivers," but said it is "one of the most capable track cars ever offered from an automaker."

The Z/28 features an aero package that creates downforce at high speeds, along with carbon-ceramic brake discs and a cooler for the rear differential.

Initial testing by GM showed the new Z/28 to be 3 seconds faster per lap than the ZL1, the former "highest-performing production Camaro of all time."
