Took my 89 LX to the 8th got on the interstate to go home temp gauge pegged HOT! Was fine on the way there and while racing. 70 miles from home no tools, I guess stuck t-stat closed or the water pump crapped out. stopped to let it cool. If it does not fix itself I guess I will have it towed.

Not a stupid question. Over flow tank has water. Top hose is tight. Have not opened cap yet.

Don't worry about that....but after it cools, see if there's any coolant in it. Also it's easy to toss a belt at the strip, although you'd probably notice the other symptomsMy fabulous web page

Belts good. On the way home so far so good. Normally runs a little cooler but no where near hot. Coolent is very rusty!

After you get home and flush your system, use WATER WETTER it WILL help you run cooler...
But that does not solve what may be wrong...
We use it.. It makes a noticeable difference.. But we do notice water out the exhaust (straight up) if a head gasket went south..
Since you didn't need to add liquid, t-stat.. Then water pump.. might be clogged radiator..

any signs the coolant pressure is building up? or not going high enough? (radiator cap, simple to check). Hopefully it's not a breached headgasket.www.realtuners.com - catch the RealTuners Radio Podcast on Youtube, Facebook, iTunes, and anywhere else podcasts are distributed!

Made it home should have just called the tow truck. Stopped paid way too much for 5 China wrenches and a case of water, it had cooled so I drove an few more miles. Stopped took t-strat out. Drove some more still getting hot pulled over and let most of the fluid out, when they say open cap slowly they mean it! Fill with bottle water. Did some pulse and glide home.
I am bad about changing coolent and some of my stuff sits a lot. So I think all rust clogged the radiator. If the motor is not 86ed then I think it needs a radiator t-stat and water pump. I think if you run one hot the water pump is toast

Look for white smoke when you start it up next time, that means you need to work on the motor...hopefully you won't see it.My fabulous web page

Is the bottom hose full? Can you see coolant cycling with a little rpms? If not probably water pump.Jeff
