I picked up this 87 Turbo Coupe way cheap and plan on building a street legal LSR car out of it next winter. Don't plan on touching untill after drag week. A friend went in with me who wants the turbo 2300 and trans for his 74 Pinto wagon. I am thinking either low tech BBF AA fuel real street or high tech D blown super street with a turbo coyote crate engine. This car was in a yard and very close to being crushed!

boost the hell out of the 2300...screw the BB anything....If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark DonohueComment

I have a '88, nice score!!!. I'm with Joe keep the 2.3...... Though you might want to see what records have been made in each cubic inch class, you might be able to snake up on a record using the 2.3 fairly cheap, where the BBF route might have a higher record that will take a lot of money to beat........Comment

big block in that chassis.
please tell me you are welding into a tough body. I see those cars and think of the popped human head in the accident I found.
it left the road unmysteriously for that model..(I watched it). they are crazy.Previously boxer3main

I like all the input, 2300 would be cool but I am not the Hubers and parts are drying up for these things. Also there are better 4 cylinder turbo's out there (a certain EVO comes to mind. I want to build a car for one of the street classes and the current F blown super street class record is 187, on the other hand AA gas real street is 198 AA fuel real street is 204 or A fuel is 130 and A gas real street is167. I think I could build knuckle drager BBF at 500ci to make 900hp na and more on spray alot cheaper than a 700hp turbo 4.When I get to building it will start with chassis and build for a car legal to 200+ and look at records at the end season before building a engine.Comment

You might want to contact Lawson. He knows a thing or to about making this car fast. I am betting he will be at Ohio.

I am sure he would be helpfull but I think his car is a Super coupe, the next gen of thunderbird (89-97) they used a 3.8 v6 super charged. Mine is still a fox body, 83-88 wich used a 2.3 four cylinder turbo.Originally posted by rightpedal View PostYou might want to contact Lawson. He knows a thing or to about making this car fast.
