I had been standing about 1/2 block from the first blast site 5 minutes before it went off....I was probably 1-1/2 block away and not much further when the 2nd one went too.......God was watching out for me again, for sure. The streets looked like those New York 911 films....I hugged a building to keep from getting ran over......I'm praying for the victims, for sure.and thanking Him for watching over all of us.

Apparently the bombs went off about the time I headed to the doctor's office. I heard about it on the radio. In the waiting room, a large screen TV showed the destruction. The volume was down. Right before I was called, one old lady turned to another and said, "I bet the NRA had something to do with this". The other shook her gray head, and said "They oughta outlaw that bunch". Perhaps I stared too long at them with my mouth open.... The first one looked at me, and asked "What?". Then the nurse called my name. As I stood I told the old gal "Lady, that is the stupidest thing I've heard all day". Then I turned on my heel and followed the nurse.

The last thing anyone needs to do is to throw blame right now. Too early to tell. Right now, focus on three things:

                        1. Those who lost people today (last I checked, three dead, including an 8 year old boy.)
                        2. Those who were injured and who are facing some serious issues from what happened.
                        3. Those who were running towards the blast. Of note, the National Guard units who went from basic security for the race to first responders, medics, and proper security.
                        Editor-at-Large at...well, here, of course!

My condolences to all affected. One of my nephews was a block away from the blast.

It reminds me of the Paris bombings in 1987 - I was in Paris at the time. 16 bombs (IIRC) went off over the course of about a year. They had (the French equivalent) SWAT on every corner. The statement about police state above reminded me of this - While waiting for a subway train, I saw a guy get up and start to walk away from his package, a CRT (swat) officer saw that and leveled his gun at the guy who was walking away from his package - he told the guy to pick it up and to go towards an office in the station. The CRT officer never lowered his gun on the guy and they disappeared into the office.
Eventually, they found the people responsible, but it was quite awhile (like 2 years) from when the first bomb went off and they caught the perps. Some might remember the timing - Reagan wanted to us to fly over France to bomb Libya, and the French refused... of course, no one on this side of the pond read in the newspaper why the French said no...

what is it - the more things change, the more they stay the same.

                                no words -

glad to know the Lohne's clan is safe - and you too Ed - Lord that's too close for comfort.

Prayers for all those affected - and a huge attaboy to the folks who ran in to help, in uniform or not.
