I saw that, very neat story. Did you hear the part about them opening a bottle of Cognac? True gentlemen.

              This is sooo true.
We are down to a single WW2 veteran left in our local veteran group. One of these days, we will have to perform his funeral. That day will be very hard on our group. We all know he is the last one of us that truly made a difference with his service. He just says "we did what needed to be done, anyone else would do the same".

the time and place for a mission like that.. never happen again.

I had read a story of the landing, the Chinese were peculiar to encounter.

aggressive to kill at one and be nice to another..as if to be judging something. kinda like stray dogs all getting together.. all of a sudden there is a bad one for reasons unknown to witnesses.

My maternal step grand father was a front line surgeon on Omaha beach. He stopped bleeding, pulled bullets and schrapnel from soldiers right there on the sand. He went back for the 20th anniversary and a German soldier who was there manning a MG42. They got to talking and were soon friends. They both were there again for the 50th. Somehow ABC news found out about them and interviewed the both of them. I have a tape of it here somewhere. Peter Jennings, the last good news anchor, was the one. I emailed him when Fred died and he emailed me back for info on his funeral. I.think.they sent fkowers or something.
