This is Libtard, we adopted her last summer at approx 6 months. She grew a fair amount more than we expected!
Lots of people ask if she is a dingo.........
I had a dog that was a dingo / Aussie Cattle dog mix that looked a lot like this picture. She also was the smartest dog I've ever come across. She learned a command in the first round of training. She knew exactly where the property line was, and anything that crossed it without an escort (me or the kids) was ripped to shreds - or at least threatened with the ultimate demise-by-dog. If this was a known breed, it would get my "two-thumbs-up" recommendation.
I'm vaguely jealous of you, Stiney, for having a dog like my old Dingo.
More than likely, a rescued mutt is your best bet. You and the dog will both benefit from the experience.
One vote for not getting a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy. Don't do that. They're so damned cute, you'll fall in love. For a minute, but after two minutes you'd rather stab yourself in the groin with an ice pick. Just sayin.'
4 out of 5 of our last dogs have been rescue dogs....
Here are the current two.
Bubba : 110 lb lab mix
Sampson:145 lb Anatolian Shepherd
both shed with enthusiasm. On the up side, I don't need to worry about the shop when I'm out
The best dog I ever had was a female boarder collie mix. I swear she had a larger vocabulary than most current high school students. Oh and she listened and minded MUCH better too!
Here is Annie. She passed away 3 years ago and we still miss her.
