Sorry, "We live in a fallen, harsh, pain-riddled, unjust world."

Not everyone is that strong, or whatever. I cant say what changed my mind. Whether or not God intervened only he knows. I dont get into that thinking.
Without violating the rules, I think a lot of us believe that we're never tested beyond what we're given to endure it. I do understand that's not a universal conclusion, though. And some of us choose to see Divine providence as self-evident in virtually all stories of survival.

What each of us has to find in this journey of life . . . the ultimate test, so to speak . . . is meaning and purpose . . . even as it may seem from some vantage points there is none. The Holocaust-surviving psychiatrist Viktor Frankl -- a direct witness to some of the most inhuman evil ever recorded - had a good, non-sectarian point about this:

My mother's best friend's son committed suicide last year. Jumped off the roof of the Silver Legacy Casino's garage in Reno. Josh had rheumatoid arthtritis which is a progressive disease that gets to a point when any joint movement hurts like hell. Josh had other problems, OD'ed on pain killers three times, couldnrt hold down a job even though he was real smart and had several high paying jobs. I never really knew him at all so I cant speculate what his reasons were. I can only guess. I can only say that he most likely felt had reached the end of his rope. Very sad.

As you can imagine, this really crushed his parents, especially his mom.
Sad indeed. Virtually no caring parent that loses a child, regardless of the circumstances, avoids this. Suicide undoubtedly makes it even worse. That's not parental "selfishness," IMHO. That's an inherent manifestation of the enormous investment that real parenting involves.

BTW, the weather ain't so beautiful in parts of the country . . . just sayin.

Maybe the eye opener for me was when we moved Cali. My new gut doc at Travis AFB was not your usual doctor. We were discussing the possiblity of surgery. He wanted me to talk to a surgeon. I was all feeling sorry for myself and thinking how much life sucked. So, we walked over to the surgeons office. He walked me through the children's critical care unit on the way there. We saw three kids about 7-9 years old. They were all smiles and laughing in a play room. One had severe burns from a coffee pot falling him straight off the stove, one was paralyzed and in a wheel chair, and the hird had no hair from getting chemo for a brain tumor. But, these beautiful kids were still able to be kids and laugh and play. Made my little colitis problem seem really trivial. Not sure if he did it on purpose, but I definitely needed it.
