  • Onion rings?

Lately, I have been trying to eat healthier and get back into shape. Well, the weather hasn't cooperated to well for riding my bicycle yet, but we are getting there. Since giving up soda pop since March 13, I have lost fifteen pounds.

I eat what I consider to be a fairly balanced diet with lots of fruit and veggies and an occasional bratwurst and a few beers. Every so often, though, I get a hankerin' for some good ol' greasy onion rings. We have a place here in Topeka called Bobo's which normally has incredibly good onion rings. I went there a few weeks back and was disappointed. Dammit, I don't do it very often, but when I do eat onion rings, I want them to be awesome. Sub par just won't cut it when you are limited by dietary choice. So, I gotta know....

What's your favorite place for kickass onion rings and where is it loacated?
It's really no different than trying to glue them back on after she has her way.

      if serious make your own.

I have made a pan the deep frier.

a popular one. I tend to listen to the funny straight guy cooking for us.

      recipe amounts:
Onion rings have an odd place in American cuisine. Everyone seems to love them, and they're on the menu at just about every burger joint in ...

I have made all my first flour based things from this guys examples.

I tend to wander off like a car builder and get unique parts, but it is good.

      non bullshitter.

he is pretty good, I change some things.

stubborn powders I cannot do, many shattered teeth...but th home made, get up close to every ingredient is the greatest thing I have ever done.

fed my brain enough to gain memory, stamina etc.

I wonder if they ever used corn meal, (that stuff on the bottom of a pizza pan) instead of breadcrumbs...
          grease could soften anything, possibly.

          corn meal version (found one).

There's a local chain here in Wichita called Dog'N'Shake. Best rings anywhere!
These are not frozen onion bits formed into a ring, these are cut fresh daily and fried in "honest" grease.
Love 'em (must get some this weekend).

Best I ever ate... Lordy knows I tried to find he equal... And failed!
BABES in Des Moines by Drake university!
Wasn't there when we went to DM last summer..
Babe himself would bus tables and be seen eting leftovers that folks didn't finish..

I tried a beer batter recipe.. The better beers make the more flavorful ones.. Liked cornmeal added to the flour mixture sprinkled with chili powder... Cut the onions.. Tear them apart, soak in MILK then pat dry, dip in egg mixture, then flour, plop in fryer...
The left over milk can be used in potato soup stock... No waste!

Sorry kids, but bread crumb onion rings suck compared to beer battered ones. Merlino's in Sacramento made some damn good ones. My only saving grace when I visit is to stay away. If I so much as smell them, I'm done for.

i use this and it is great. Also for all things frying, i bought a couple of those Nuwave precision induction cooktops and use quality heavy stainless steel cookware and the temperature control is absolutely fantastic......as seen on TV,honest!

The Varsity in downtown Atlanta. They start with tubs of peeled onions every morning and they dip them in batter by hand. Mmmmm!

just made some. As with the breads and pizzas and spaghettis.. home made blows it away.

first batch of onion rings. There is no tint of green in real life, my camera is getting old. This is the cornmeal version, not bread crumbs. this is one large vdalia jumbo onion.. I ate half of them already.

this is the version with flour- milk- flour/spice/cornmeal - frying pan.
