Need To Lose Weight, Because I'm Fat..

I've been battling the bulge my whole life. When I met my wife in 2004 I was a fit & trim 195lbs & wore a 34" waist. Fast Forward to 2008, I gained 60lbs & had a 38" waist. Now in 2013 I'm 75lbs over & in a 40" waist. I've tried dieting, exercise, fasting. I'd lose 5-10lbs, it'd come back, nothing seems to work.

Last night I was talking to my Dad. He has weight & health issues & needs to lose about 70-80lbs. He's tried everything too. He told me he just watched this documentary called Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead. This Aussie bloke goes on a juice fast for 60 days & lost 90lbs. He drinks nothing but juice made from fresh vege's. No meat, just fresh juice.

I watched, & all I can say is wow, I'm buying a juicer & doing this for at least 30 days. I can't believe how quickly this technique helps you shed pounds & get your body back into shape. The people in the film were on all kinds of meds when they started, & when they were done they were many lbs lighter, were off the meds & had a clean bill of health.

I know some fellow bangshifters are battling weight problems too & I wanted to share this with you guys. Here's the documentary...

I'm going to start this gradually, prolly start the juice diet on a weekend because you crap a lot the first couple days & if I'm crapping a lot it's gonna be on my own throne!!!

I'll keep you guys posted on the progress. I hope this helps those of you wanting to get your body back into shape.. Wish me luck!

At the beginning of March, I was 291 and couldnt fit my work clothes anymore, so I tried to get more active. I got down to 287 by the 6th of May I went to Nebraska to pick up my kid for the summer. Today I am 269 and its dropping fast. Goal is 210 and being able to run for short distances on my worn out knees. The lightest I have been since 1991 is 210. I hit that in 2001 when I was in Kuwait and 9/11 grounded all the planes leaving us with nothing to do. We went to the gym for 8 hours at a time, and I got ripped pretty good. 1990-91 is when I packed on a ton of muscle mass, thanks to being part of the largest airlift in history to move forces to Saudi Arabia.

I will never get lower than 200 again, unless I get sick or something is cut off me, like a leg.

The system I am using? Stress and depression. Just dont eat, sleep about 4 hours a day, and be up and moving all day. That makes the pounds slide right off fast. This all happened three years ago, but this time the pounds will not be coming back, mostly because 35 of them were due to the isocyanate exposure last year, leaving me unable to do much of anything.

I saw that doc a while ago, it was very interesting. I managed to lose about 45 lbs by just changing what I eat, cutting out carbs mostly, and eating more vegetables, meat, dairy.

Good luck, if you can stick to it you should do ok...but the tricky part is changing what you eat when you're done with your "diet", so you don't treat it as just a temporary "diet".

That's gonna be tricky alright. His website has recipes on it to help with the transition after the juice fast. I'll be going there a lot to get recipes!

At 6'2" and 220 I was a bit overweight and felt sluggish so I started counting calories by using an app on my droid phone (free). Their formula takes in your age, height, weight and how active you are and gives you a daily calorie count. At the end of the day you put in you list the foods you ate and it gives you the approx calorie intake for the day. As long as you are near your average daily calorie intake numbers you begin losing weight right away. Within two weeks i had dropped 6 lbs, but I walk almost every day, try and get on the mountain bike some and lift weights several times a week. Like many of us, my issue was getting a "gut". Rarely drink beer (although I blew that this weekend). Last years near death experience 3 times was a big wake up call. It was too much stress, not enough exercise and eating too much junk so I made a few changes and began the exercise I mentioned above. I feel better most of the time and am taking positive steps. My current divorce is very stressful so when I'm overwhelmed I go for a car drive or do some type of workout. So whether its juicing, exercise, calorie counting be sure and do something! Good luck to you and everyone else on here battling with weight/stress ect!

After losing weight to wrestle in school, and staying in the military as a big guy when they wanted me skinny, I know how to lose it and maintain it... as long as I could keep moving. Now I have to do things differently, but I wont do the juice diet, I have something else in mind. Something I can keep up and not gain back over the winter.

Since I am single again, its high time I start looking good and feeling good.

if you can gain weight , it is lucky.. you only battle yourself.
stopping protein like, as in raw meat, real protein, scares the heck out of me.

genes do many things, nice to see you can relate to your dad.

in just one family, my uncle had the weight problem, and on my side, we ate more than the 300 pound uncle to be less than half the weight.

I learned American, since the nukes.. hypo thyroid. its like modern steel world wide, it knows that nuke happened, we just work with it the way it is.

my dad went through spell of looking like 170 pounds, but was approaching 240. A brick of a human.

you overweight people got it easier than you might get depressed over... imagine hopeless density to go with a problem.

My daddy summed it up pretty well. In his line of thought, and he oversimplified things quite a bit, he said that every one of us, all humans, we all have some sort of an imperfect thing going on. He said that overweight is the only issue that we can all "see."

He was wise that way, and his weight went up and down, too.

I watched that movie (Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead) about two weeks ago. I was really impressed by how well Joe narrated the show and explained everything in such detail.

On March 13th, I committed myself to making it my goal to drop from 212 pounds to 185 pounds by June 1st. I am currently at 192# and will most likely be at my goal weight about a week AFTER my goal date. How'd I do it? I gave up soda pop and desserts after dinner.
It's really no different than trying to glue them back on after she has her way.

Been doing a modified version of the veggie juice routine for about 5 months now. Cut 60lbs so far. Do the juice during the day then a lean meal at night. Very little carbs, dairy or fruit. I do incorporate other "snackl" foods in small portions very conservatively.

I would not dive into the juice diet all at once. start a few weeks ahead and experiment with various juices and sources of vegetables. Take small steps into if need be. Get ready to visit the grocery every three days or so to get fresh veggies. You can simply eat the veggies also. Juicing is just more convenient for me.

Ultimately you have to pick a diet that provides the required nourishment that you can stick to over the long haul. Juicing is no magic bullet. But may be a routine you can stick with. There is a large community of juicers that you can be in contact with for recipes and support also. This is more of a mental challenge than anything for most of us.

Yep. To be successful, there need be nothing temporary about it. If weight has been an ongoing issue, then a permanent change is required.
