I could imagine problems as the ring gear turns and the pinion tries to retreat after cranking.
Or is it a spare wedged into the crate ?

Dave....yeah, I'm with you there...BUT.
The other option is to have a flat hood with a Pro Stock style scoop that would have to be built up so high it wouldn't look all that great either.
At the end of the day this is probably the best asthetic option, although it does warrant a violation, even if it's a misdemeanor.
