  • Need a junk sbc block in SoCal.

That's right, I need a junk sbc block. Doesn't matter of the size. We need it for fixing an $2000 Dart block that was damaged in a wreck. Yes, that is possible. That is what my machinist specializes in.

So if you know anyone with a crap 307, a 350 with damaged bores, cracked, doesn't matter. The outside of the block needs to be intact.

    PM if you know anyone.

I'd like to see pics of the process. Also, what's it gonna cost to save that block?

I have been thinking about asking to watch it done. We were quoted $500.

I'm going to guess they'd cut out the offending area and match in the replacement section, then heat the whole thing up and do a careful job of welding. Cooling/annealing would be slooow. At least, that's what I'd imagine...you'd have to have some good experience w/ cast iron to take that on with any confidence.

Brain Fart Alert: I'm not 2 hours from you, it's three. Last time I went to Costa Mesa, that was two and that's what I was thinking.

There's gotta be junk blocks closer, it would take more in gas/time than what it's worth...but in any event I've got a '90 305 in the scrap pile right now, and there's a mid-'80s 350 that could be gutted and go.

I'm sure I have those or another set around, they'd have some high milage on them though.
