  • 1955 Olds trar

Everyone 'minos everything to death, so I am going to champion the "trar" (truck/car) cause.

This thing is not my taste, but it is unique and most likely one of one. Owned by an old guy who wouldn't give me the time of day until I correctly Id'd the back glass to be from a 1955/56 Chevy truck.

    What say you?

The Charger next to it was way clean but sported 318 power.

If you notice in the background there's a construction forklift which appears to be stacking things. They were building this bonfire:

This thing is a yearly tradition around here. They build it as high as the pole and the sucker has to be 30-40 feet across. I know you midwestern guys probably have 'em twice as big, but this thing is major league for us.

Jim....how dare you. Someone spent the better part of 1/2 hour doing that tin work.

Some people have no appreciation for craftsmanship. ;D

      Double...nay....triple yikes.

Isn't a "Trar" simply called a ute (utility)?
        It's hardly a truck..

I believe Ford did come up with the idea first though...

The Olds is pretty. My dad bought an early version of one when he was building a cottage near a lake and needed something to tote materials. This would have been about 1955 or so. It was a '48 (or so) Ford 2 door sedan with the body cut off behind the driver's seat. The rear of the body was plugged with board & bead paneling like you see on a porch ceiling. They had fitted some kind of bed - maybe a Model A - they were cheap then. The whole deal was brushed painted red - I'm guessing with implement paint. I hated that thing for a number of reasons, not least of which is that I had to ride in the rear of it from Plymouth MI to Commerce MI in the winter. I'm guessing it cost next to nothing, as my dad was not accustomed to paying much for anything.

                    Correct. In Australia in 1935.
In the USA, Ford Ranchero 1957.

I may be a Buick (therefore GM) guy but I love rubbing Chevy's nose in just about anything I can and somehow Holden seams to fit aswell. Though they do make some awesome stuff.
