  • NHRA funny car body tether

I watched sears point NHRA event on tv last night and was wondering after the Johny Gray deal is there some thing I missed about flying funny car bodies being a problem? Bodies have been broken in pieces and air borne as far back as I can remember and I don't think I have ever heard of a spectator injury from them. Am I missing something creating a need for tethers now?

In my opinion, not a bad change. Nobody has been hurt, YET. Law of averages
says if you launch enough funny car bodies into the stands eventually they will
hit someone, I don't want that first one to be me and I don't think anyone else
            does either.

If something happened, bad something ..

and, there was no retention in place , per rules ..

Everyone would say ... Jeez, they should of had body tether rules in place long time ago

Think, they need to re-think how to do it though

I watched it, saw it - yeah. One thing for another. It worked as designed and then the driver can't see where to go. Banged the wall one time, can't see.

Which is the worst of evils? Reminds me of NASCAR - something's wrong: FIX it.

Dale Pulde Launched Joe Pisano's body into the stands at the 93 world finals
The fans caught it and pushed to body out onto the track
